CHAPTER FOUR
Henry
Over the next few days, Elaine and I didnt have any more mishaps like what we experienced on her first day as my elf. Thanks to having seen first hand what could happen if a child got too curious, we both were on edge and did everything we could to watch over each and every child on my lap. By the end of the week, things were finally going well, and we were no longer worried about any children unmasking me while sitting on my lap.
No matter how hard I tried, I still couldn't keep my mind off Elaine. I still found myself distracted by the way she looked in her little elf uniform, and I kept looking for any and every excuse in order to get her attention. However, after the first couple days, I noticed that she was a little more withdrawn than she had been when she first started working here, and I started to wonder if something was wrong. By the time that following Friday arrived, I finally decided that I needed to do something about it.
"Well, that was fun," I commented as we entered the break room after our long shift. She nodded as she pulled off her elf hat and started together her belongings from her locker.
"Yes, it was," she agreed as she prepared to go home. "It's been so much easier ever since Monday." Looking at the calendar, she shrugged. "It's just too bad that we only have another two weeks of this before they close down Santa's Wonderland here at the mall. After that, I don't know if I'll get to see you again." Frowning in confusion, I turned to look at her.
"What are you talking about?" I asked. "Do you have something lined up for after this is all over?" Immediately, she shook her head.
"No," she admitted, "but I don't know if you do either. At this point, anything could happen it seems." I couldn't help but shrug at her.
"I'll just be going back to my day job," I informed her. "We're always hiring extra help, if you're ever interested." Raising an eyebrow, she turned to look at me.
"And what is it you do when?" she asked, sounding genuinely curious as she spoke. Seeing this is my chance to try to win her over once again, I smiled at her.
"I own an electronics company," I informed her. "We assemble parts for different pieces of technology throughout the country and sell them to the stores in order to repair them. I have been meaning to get a personal assistant in the meantime." She considered this for a moment before tilting her head to the side at me.
"Are you offering me the job?" she asked, and I nodded in response.
"If you're interested," I reminded her. "I don't want to force anything on you that you don't want." She considered this for a moment before crossing her arms at me.
"I'll have to think about it," she informed me with a gentle smile. "However, before I consider taking a job from anybody, I want to get to know them a bit better." Wondering what she meant, I raised an eyebrow at her.
Was she giving me a chance to ask her out once again? Or was she implying that she just wasn't interested in playing hard to get? These days, it was impossible to tell with women, but I hoped that I wasn't misunderstanding her. After considering her words for a moment, I shrugged.
"We never rescheduled that dinner," I reminded her, keeping my tone light and neutral as I spoke. "We could always try rescheduling and getting to know each other." Much to my surprise, she smiled as she nodded in agreement.
"I would like that," she replied, her voice cheery as she spoke. "When should we go?" Thinking for a moment, I tapped a finger to my chin.
"Why not tonight?" I asked after thinking it over. "We could go have a nice dinner, get to sit down and talk, and we'd be able to get to know each other better." Again, she nodded in response as her smile grew wider.
"Deal," she said as she gathered her regular clothing. "Let me go get changed, and we can leave right away." Seeing this as the best opportunity, I nodded in response as I gathered my clothing.
"Let's meet back here as soon as we're done changing out of our uniforms," I suggested. "From there, we'll decide whose car to take and where we want to go." With the plans made, she made her way over to the bathrooms, where she was going to change into her regular clothes, and I made my way to the changing room in the back of the office. My mind raced as I took off the Santa suit.
This was it. I had finally asked her out, and she had said yes. I couldn't believe my luck as I prepared for our date. As much as I hated not being allowed the chance to get to dress up and take her on a proper date, a dinner date was better than nothing. This would be the perfect chance to see what kind of person she was and to see if she was Little material.
Once I was out of the Santa suit, I put on my coat and sat down at the table, waiting patiently for her as she finished getting out of her elf uniform in the bathrooms. It felt as though she was taking a while, but, after remembering that the elf suit was a little more complicated than the Santa suit, I gave her the benefit of the doubt. This was the perfect chance for me to consider what I was going to say in order to bring up the subject of Daddies and Littles.
The subject was always delicate enough, especially when one didn't know if the person was a Little or not. Things could go terribly wrong with absolutely no warning if not done right, and the last thing I wanted was to scare her off in the conversation. So, as I waited for her in the break room, I rehearsed my lines, trying to get them down to perfection as I prepared myself for the conversation.
