CHAPTER TEN
Jeremy
We spent the next week exploring the town and letting the town explore us. Although I’d been there a month longer, I was still a newbie and people were curious about us.
The town was picturesque and the people were welcoming. We had food delivered to my rental house by our neighbors, wine dropped off by the local grocery store owner, and even a pie gifted to us from the local church ladies. Everyone was friendly. Some were overly so.
One night when we went to the local bar, several of the men in town showed interest in Clary. I quickly put that to rest when I introduced her as my girlfriend and she didn’t protest at all. I even caught her smiling when I said it.
"What are you grinning about?" I teased her, slowly stalking her at the bar.
She giggled and moved away to dance. I followed and put my hands on her hips, pulling her back to me. We swayed to the music as she wrapped her arms around my neck. It was like there weren’t other people in the room with us.
"You said I'm your girlfriend," she bragged.
I leaned down and kissed her.
"I'd love for you to be more than that, but I need to gather a few things first," I admitted.
She leaned back and looked at me intently.
"Are you serious?" she asked, somewhat surprised. Then she grinned and leaned up to brush her lips across mine.
“Eh hem,” a voice cut into our kiss.
“Can I help you?” I asked, annoyed to find Jordan teasing me.
“I was just seeing if you guys needed another drink,” he offered meekly, making me smile. Jordan was the nice guy of the town.
“Sure, I’ll take one. Thanks. Clary?”
“Sure,” she responded cheerfully.
We wandered back toward the bar and Jordan ordered three beers.
“How’re you feeling?” he asked Clary.
“Better than when I first arrived.”
“I was wondering if you remembered anything more about the flight up?”
“Not really. Charlie kept all the supplies and stuff in the back covered. How is he doing?”
“He’s shaken up, but more so about the repercussions of not delivering his supplies than the actual crash. Apparently one of his engines blew after a bird flew through it. That’s why the plane went down. He gave me the address of where he was supposed to drop the supplies and leave them.”
Jordan turned to me. “I was hoping you’d like to go check it out with me.”
“You’re not leaving me behind,” Clary interjected.
“It’s going to be a long hike, but you’re more than welcome to come. How are you for supplies? Were most of your things lost in the crash?”
“All of my things, but people have been great about donating stuff. I do have some hiking equipment and warm clothes I could wear.”
She smirked at him and I snorted a laugh. She was so sweet, but so feisty.
“You can come with us and I’ll keep an eye on you,” I conceded.
She rolled her eyes, then made her way to the dance floor. We danced until close, then headed to my place for the evening. As I wrapped my arms around her in bed, I knew what I had to do before we left for the woods tomorrow.
