CHAPTER THREE
Clary
I was nervous getting ready for the dinner theater. The dress I’d brought along was low cut with a high slit, showing off all the curves I had. The blue color complimented my skin and eyes, while the soft, silky material floated over my skin seductively.
I knew I was nervous because of Jeremy. Dressing up was nothing new to me. Dealing with men was also nothing new to me.
I was good at playing the part of bartender: flirty and available, but not too available. I wasn’t sure how well I would play the part of dinner date.
I smoothed lipstick on my lips and checked the clock. I was going to be five minutes late to make an entrance. I slid my feet into the strappy heels I’d chosen and checked myself out in the tiny mirror in my cabin.
Walking out of my cabin, I bumped into another passenger on her way to the dinner theater. We chatted as we made our way to the right deck. She was chattering in my ear about her boyfriend who was meeting her there and I was kind of nodding in acknowledgment.
When I saw Jeremy standing and waiting for me, my breath caught in my throat. He was the most handsome man I'd ever seen. And I’d seen a lot of important, handsome men in my line of work.
His tux highlighted his broad shoulders and chest, making me want to run my hands across them. His pants stretched across his sexy ass perfectly, and I swore I could see the outline of his cock in between his legs. But maybe that was just my wishful imagination.
To say I was attracted to this man was an understatement. I would have let him take me then and there, in the entryway to the restaurant, with strangers surrounding us.
When he saw me, his eyes went even darker if that were possible. I saw his lips part and heard him suck in a sharp breath. I realized he was as affected by me as I was by him.
“You look ravishing,” he praised me, offering his arm to walk me in. When he put my arm on his, heat sparked inside me. I looked at him sideways to see if he felt it and he was looking at me intently.
“Thank you. You clean up very nicely yourself,” I complimented him, looking him up and down, then whistling appreciatively.
We found a table for two and ordered drinks to start with. The appetizer was delicious and the entree smelled fantastic. Watching him eat was a sensual experience.
His lips and mouth fascinated me. I kept picturing his hands on my body instead of holding his glass or fork. I could feel a dampness gathering between my legs as I sat across from him.
When the lights dimmed and the show started, he turned his chair to be closer to me and see the show. The actors and singers were talented, but I was distracted by his scent.
He smelled pleasantly like the outdoors and some spice. I leaned closer to sniff him again and he looked at me, catching me.
“You smell good,” I whispered, somewhat embarrassed.
He grinned at me and put his hand on my knee to lean over and whisper in my ear.
“I’d love to have you smell me all night long,” he said with a silly grin.
Focusing back on the show, he left his hand on my thigh. When his fingers started tracing patterns on my leg, I nearly moaned.
His hand moved up my thigh, closer to the wet heat he was creating. The slit in my dress allowed him full access to anything he wanted. And I sure wasn’t going to stop him.
He leaned closer to me and I could see the desire in his eyes.
“How long does this show last?” he asked, his fingers lingering on my inner thigh, giving me goosebumps.
I laughed.
“This is just the first act. There are three more!”
“Fuck!” he muttered in frustration.
I squeezed his hand in between my thighs and halted his distracting progress.
“You think we’re going to be able to pull off this just friends thing?” I asked him honestly.
“If that’s what you want…” he trailed off.
“It’s not.”
He looked at me in surprise.
“It can’t be anything serious, though,” he warned. “I’m not in the market for that kind of a relationship again.”
“That’s fine,” I conceded, although I wasn’t sure how I felt about it. “But let’s be open to the idea that maybe more than friends is where we should be.”
He looked at me like he couldn’t figure me out for a second, then nodded his head.
“You’re unlike anyone I’ve ever met,” he admitted. “I’d definitely be open to the possibility of more with you.”
I was going to take him up on that, but I was going to make him work for it.
