CHAPTER FIVE
Lacey
I never thought that my first time would have been in the bathroom of an airplane thirty thousand feet up in the air, but I could already say that it was well worth it. We didn't get caught by the flight attendant or anybody else, and it actually helped me get through the rest of the flight. By the time we had returned to our seats, I felt much better about the flight, and I couldn't wait till and knowing full well that both Jordan and I were going to the exact same place, which was pretty surprising.
Who would have thought that sex in the bathroom with a complete stranger would have worked out so well for anybody? I know for sure that I never did, especially considering that I had always been so responsible with my life up until now. After all, this was now considered my vacation. The least I could do was have a little fun while on vacation.
Even though I was certain that he would tell me that he didn't want to see me again after the flight was over, he actually agreed to go with me to the small town north of Nome where Clary was currently staying with her new husband, Jeremy. What was even more surprising was the fact that Jeremy turned out to be Jordan's best friend, and they both worked together at the same place, which meant that he was going there regardless of it all. At first, I thought it was a little scary, especially considering the fact that he didn't even know me, but since it was hard to come across transportation in Alaska, he promised that it wasn't as big of a deal as I was making it out to be when he offered me the ride.
By the time the flight finally landed, I found that I was even more eager to get to spend more time with Jordan than I originally anticipated. The only thing that was truly bothering me was the fact that I already knew that it wasn't going to last forever. After all, I was only going to be in town for two weeks before I had to return to Las Vegas, which meant that I wasn't going to be able to stay forever with him like I would have liked. Of course, it meant that this was just a fling, and I would most likely be over it by the time I got over to Las Vegas, but, after seeing what had happened with Clary, I was already starting to second-guess my choices.
Part of me was still excited from our activity even after the plane had landed, and we were already in the car on our way up to the small town north of Nome. However, I couldn't bring myself to start a conversation with him. Instead, I was completely lost in thought, debating with myself internally on whether or not I wanted to stay or go once my two weeks were up. He seemed to notice about halfway through the trip and immediately brought it up as soon as he had.
“What exactly is on your mind?” Jordan asked as he smiled over at me, careful not to pull his eyes off the road for too long. “You've been pretty quiet ever since we got back from the bathroom in the plane.” Taking a moment to gather my thoughts, I took a deep breath and smiled at him.
“I guess I'm just excited to see Clary again,” I said, unable to think of any way to break it to him that I was going to be leaving as soon as my two weeks were up. “I haven't seen her in the last several months, and I didn't even get an invitation to the wedding. All I got were pictures of the wedding one she posted them to social media.” He chuckled as he shook his head, seeming to understand the dilemma I was in without even knowing the full truth.
“Yeah, friends can be crazy like that,” he said as he continued driving down the snowy road before us. “That's what happens to you as you get older. You drift apart from the people you used to be friends with, but true friends always stick around until the end. It all depends on how the two of you mature over time, and I have a feeling that, in the end, the two of you will continue to be the greatest of friends, especially now that you're up here.” I winced as I looked down at the floor where my snow-covered boots were still soaking wet from the snow.
I felt like I should tell him the truth and let him know what would happen after the two weeks were not up, but I didn't know how I was going to tell him. It didn't exactly seem like something that was personally any of his business, but I already had a feeling that he was already going to try to take things as far as he could before I could even stop him. If I didn't tell him now, I could end up hurting him, and I didn't want to do that either.
“That's part of the issue,” I said as I rubbed the back of my head, nervously trying to put together the words to say. “I'm only going to be up here for two weeks, which means that unless she decides with her new husband that she's going to go back to the States, I'm not going to be able to see her again after all this is through.” He didn't say anything at first, which made me slightly concerned as I realized that he was slowly processing the words I had just said.
As if suddenly hit with the realization that he wasn't going to be able to see me after these two weeks were up, he immediately slammed on the brakes and pulled the car over to the side of the road, slipping and sliding a little as he did so before he finally came to a full stop near one of the ditches. Once we had come to a complete stop, he turned to look at me, a look of rage in his eyes as he stared me down, and I felt a chill run up my spine as I realized just how angry he truly was about the situation. His eyes were dark and full of hatred, and I had a feeling that he wasn't going to allow things to work out the way I thought they were going to end up working out.
“Why didn't you bring this up before?” he asked as he crossed his arms at me, staring me down with that rugged look in his eyes. “Has all this been nothing but a joke to you?” My jaw dropped as I stared at him in disbelief, wondering why he was so angry.
“Of course, it hasn't been a joke to me all this time,” I pointed out as I struggled to figure out what the biggest issue was of all this. “When did I ever give you the indication that I was going to stay here in Alaska for the rest of my life? I thought I told you on the plane that I was going to be here for only about two weeks so that I could go get Clary?” He started to answer, but I saw his jaw clamp shut as he considered this, realizing that I was right.
“Well, you never did,” he said as he situated himself a little more comfortably in the seat. “So, after everything on the plane, you’re still leaving?” Realizing what was wrong, I tilted my head to the side.
“There isn’t anything between us,” I snapped as I crossed my arms at him. “That was just sex.”
