I nod and lower my voice. “Do you want me to come over? Once everyone has gone to bed?”

Her eyes flicker over my shoulder like she’s avoiding eye contact with me. “I’ll come to you.”

I nod even though I feel like she’s just saying that to appease me. It’s like she’s pushing me away

already. Her guard is going back up. My time with her has come to an end.

I cross the hall and open the door to my childhood bedroom. I take one more glance over my

shoulder toward Celine’s door before shutting mine.

Chapter 22

Celine

I hate being alone. I always have. Which is why the second I shut the door to the guest room, I’m

dying to go across the hall and run right into Ezra’s arms.

My head is all over the place. My feelings for Ezra are climbing to a level I never thought they

would be. Anxiety about my future is at an all-time high since graduation is right around the corner. I

had to tell approximately seven thousand people tonight that I have no idea what I want to do after

college. It felt like a small part of my soul chipped away every time I had to admit that to someone.

I climb into the big fluffy bed and wait until the house goes silent before I feel like it’s safe to

cross the hall to Ezra’s bedroom.

I hesitate before opening the door. This is it. This is our last night together. I thought I would be ok

with this since I knew what would happen at the end of the thirty days. But somewhere along the way,

I slipped up. Something happened between us. It feels different now, and I don’t like it. This isn’t

what I wanted.

I take a deep breath and tell myself that I can get through this. I’m the one who doesn’t want a

relationship, so I have to be strong. One more night, and then everything will go back to normal. I

open the door slowly, peeking out just enough to see if anyone is in the hallway.

It’s dark, so I can only assume everyone is tucked into their own rooms at this point. I quickly
