“You’re welcome.” I want to kiss her. I want to throw her on my bed and keep fucking her so that
she can’t leave, but I know I can’t. Instead, I ask, “So, will I see you again soon?”
We’ve hardly seen each other since I moved to Florida three years ago, but I’m hoping we can
both make more of an effort now that last night—and this morning—happened. And I only have thirty
days with her, so I have to take advantage of that.
“I don’t know. I guess we will have to figure that out, won’t we?” She sounds so nonchalant, like
I’m just another guy she slept with. Another one to add to the list of her college hook-ups. I hope to
God I’m not. I have to mean more to her than some of the assholes she’s been with.
“Ok,” I reply lamely. She doesn’t want to make plans. I can’t push her into wanting more with me.
I told her we could stop at any point. She wants to keep me at arm's length, so I guess that’s where I’ll
stay for now.
I walk her to the door of the apartment. She doesn’t bother saying bye to Liam and Sadie, and I
can’t blame her. She pauses and turns back to me, leaning in to give me a quick kiss on my lips. Then
she’s gone.
I let my forehead fall to the door after I shut it.
What have I gotten myself into?
This was a mistake. How did I think I could have sex with her and then go back to just being
friends with her? I guess that’s a problem for future me, isn’t it? Ezra thirty days from now will have
to figure out how to rein in these feelings.
“So, that’s Celine?” I hear Sadie ask from behind me. I turn to see she’s moved from the couch to
the barstool that Celine was sitting on less than half an hour ago.
“Sadie, don’t.” I don’t want to hear what she’s going to say to me. I’m sure it’s not going to be
good.
“Don’t what? I’m just curious as to what’s going on.” I hear the edge in her voice. I know she’s
more than just curious.
I let the back of my head fall on the door and squeeze my eyes shut. “I don’t know what’s going
on. I don’t know what I’m doing,” I tell her honestly.
“Well, it sounded like you were fucking her.”
“Obviously.” I roll my eyes.
“And you thought that was a good idea?”
