never happened to me before. It worries me that it’s happening now and with Ezra of all people.
Stella doesn’t talk to me; she knows I need to be alone. I must look spooked, which would be
accurate. I walk upstairs and lock myself in my room.
I sit in the middle of my bed with my phone in my hands, just staring at the blank screen.
What the hell is wrong with me?
I finally open my texts and send a message to Ezra.
Celine: Hey
It’s lame, but it’s the best I could think of. I hold my breath, waiting for him to respond. He’s usually
pretty quick to text back. But after a few seconds and nothing comes in, I sigh and toss my phone on
the bed next to me.
Then I hear it.
My text alert.
I immediately grab my phone.
Ezra: Hey
I laugh to myself about how stupid this is. Without overthinking it, I click the button to video call him.
It rings for a few seconds before connecting, and Ezra’s beautiful face fills my screen. He’s shirtless
in bed, and I’m hit with flashbacks of what we did there.
“Are you ok?” Ezra asks me before saying hello.
“Yeah, why?”
“Well, it’s almost midnight, and we haven’t talked in a while, so I thought something might be
wrong.” Oh. Yeah. I guess that makes sense. I didn’t think about that.
“Sorry, I didn’t realize it was so late.”
“That’s ok. I wasn’t asleep yet.” I watch as his eyes search my face. “You look nice.” I remember
that I put on full makeup for the party.
“Thanks. I just got home from a party.” His jaw ticks, and his eyes flicker to the side of the phone
like he is trying to avoid looking at me.
“Oh yeah? Was it fun?” I can tell he doesn’t really want to know, but he’s asking anyway to keep
things normal between us.
“It was ok.” I don’t want to tell him I almost hooked up with someone, but that I couldn’t go
through with it because I kept imagining Ezra touching and kissing me instead of the guy standing in
