taking it as a good sign that she didn’t get out of the car and walk away.
“Only when there’s an event or something. She thinks it looks bad if I show up alone or
whatever.” She nods.
“When is it?”
“Three weeks from now. It would just be a Saturday night. We’d have to stay the night at their
house, but you’d have your own room and everything.”
“Are you sure they’d be ok with you bringing me?” Probably not, but I’m certainly not going to
tell her that. That would be a quick way to get rejected.
“Why wouldn’t they be?”
“I don’t know.” She turns to look straight ahead of her instead of at me. “I don’t really fit into your
world.”
“You always fit in my world. I know you grew up differently than I did, but I’m sure once my
parents get to know you, they’ll love you.” She gives me a side-eye glance. “Come on. I just want to
spend the day with someone I actually like. It’ll make the party go by faster. There will be lots of free
champagne,” I say, trying to entice her.
“Do I have to wear a dress?”
“Yes. It's a black-tie kind of thing.” It always is with them. One time I showed up in dress pants
and polo, and you would’ve thought that I had walked in wearing a damn Halloween costume. “But
I’ll buy you a dress. I don’t mind.”
“You’re not buying me a dress. I’d feel too much like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman.”
“Please. You’re way prettier than her.” I reach over and pinch her cheek. She swats my hand
away, laughing.
“Ughh,” she moans. “You’re lucky I like fucking you. Otherwise, I’d have no problem telling you
to have a nice date with your dud.”
I laugh. “Does that mean you’ll go?”
“I guess so. But you owe me big time.” I would probably give her anything she asked me for, so
she definitely doesn’t need to worry about that.
“Obviously. Tell me what you want.”
“Well, for starters, I want lots of orgasms.” I raise my eyebrows at her. God, I love this side of
Celine. I love the fun friend side of Celine, too, because we always have a good time together, but
