interned with an event coordinator years ago. Now, I could plan one of these in my sleep.”
We stand in silence for a minute before I ask another question. “Is it hard to become an event
coordinator?” I’m not sure why I’m so interested in this, but she humors me and answers my questions
anyway.
“Like I said, you have to be pretty organized. It’s easier if you work with an existing company at
first. That’s what I did before branching out on my own. But the experience I gained was invaluable.”
I nod, and she tilts her head, giving me a questioning look. “Why? Are you interested in doing it?”
I think for a moment before responding. “I don’t know. Maybe. I’ve never thought about it before,
but I love parties, and I love planning parties. I’ve never done anything like this, obviously,” I say,
gesturing toward the house. “But, I don’t know. Sounds fun.” I shrug. This is the first career that I’ve
actually considered. It seems like it would be right up my alley, but it’s too soon to commit to it. I
need to do some Google research first.
“Well, in that case.” She reaches into her pocket and hands me a small card. “Here is my business
card. If you want to intern with me for a few months, feel free to call or email.” I look down at the
card and then back at her. She gives me a genuine smile.
I’m about to thank her when the door to the kitchen flies open, and Ezra’s beautiful blue eyes land
on me.
He exhales. “There you are. I’ve been looking all over. I thought someone had stolen you for
ransom.”
I roll my eyes. “You’re so dramatic.” I put my hand in his and take one more look at Gwen.
“Thanks for talking to me.”
“Of course. I look forward to hearing from you.” I smile quickly at her before Ezra drags me back
through the door.
“What was that about?” he asks, nodding toward Gwen.
“Nothing. Just chatting.” I don’t know why I don’t tell him I might be interested in being an event
coordinator. Maybe I’m nervous he won’t think it’s good enough? With that thought, my stomach
flutters. Why do I care what Ezra thinks? I’m never going to fit into this kind of lifestyle. Not with
him. Not with his family.
I look over at Ezra and see his gorgeous profile as he leads us back to the party. My heart sinks
when a realization hits me. The scariest thing I’ve ever thought. What if I want to be more than friends
