Easton tipped his head to the side, and got in there before I could, “What’s the reason?”

Derrika’s focus skidded to Easton. “I don’t know her past or her trauma, but whatever it is has dug in so deep she can’t see through it. It’s taken over in a way she’s made it her shield. The force it will take to break down her protective barriers will only come from someone who is stronger than she is. Someone who will make her feel safe. She needs to be chosen, overpowered, dominated. And that dominance needs to be powerful enough to quiet her demons.

“The thing is, she’s desperate to find it. I missed it earlier when she was watching you and Nebraska. But when she asked me about Jonas for a second her mask slipped and for a woman like Lore, it would take something extremely painful for her to expose something she hadn’t meant to show. It's not jealousy, not envy, it’s straight-up yearning. She wants what Nebraska has with you. She wants what she saw I have with Jonas. It’s not about having a man, it’s about having a man who overrides sensible thought and silences the past. It’s about knowing you’re safe to be you in a world that is so unsafe you have to live behind layers of fortification. The only person who will break through will not come as an equal, he will come with an energy and force that is so devastatingly powerful she’ll be powerless. The only way a woman like Lore will find peace is with someone who will carry her burdens. And when she finds that person, only then will the real Stella be safe to come out.”

Jesus, fuck me.

She might’ve been talking about Lore, but everything she’d said described her and me.

I’d been waiting, without knowing that was what I was doing, for the woman who would render me powerless against her presence. Powerless to fight her pull. Powerless to deny my feelings. Powerless to hide from her.

“Baby,” I muttered on an exhale.

Derrika slowly turned to look at me. It was then I saw it, the depth of her affection. The warmth in her eyes fueled my soul, fed the deepest parts of me, cleansed the darkest corners.

In that moment, I was reborn.

In that moment, I knew I’d carry her burdens, I’d make it safe for her to be her—whatever version of herself she needed to be. I stand next to her, behind her, in front of her—wherever she needed me to be, that’s where I’d stand.

I was hers.

Until my last breath.

CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX

“Jonas,” I breathed. “Please.”

Jonas’s hand on my ass lifted my booty ever so slightly. His fingers curled, hitting a magical spot inside of me, while his tongue toyed over my clit, and that was all it took for me to fly apart.

My back arched off the bed.

My hands fisted in his hair.

My thighs clamped tight against his head.

My mind blanked, euphoria suffused every inch of me, and he ate.

Jonas was a fingers-thrusting, head-thrashing, tongue-lashing pussy-eating god.

He also hadn’t exaggerated. He’d been down there a good long while—not because he needed time to get me off, but because he was a tease. A master at it really. He’d edged me close and pulled back no less than five times, maybe six; it was hard to keep count and I tried so when it was my turn I could get my revenge. But in the end, Jonas had me so out of my mind all I could do was beg for my orgasm.

Not only was his build-up exceptional, his delivery was brilliant.

I felt pressure on my hands, released my hold, and glanced down. Jonas’s messy dark hair between my thighs was wildly sexy, made more so when he pulled away enough to tip his eyes up to meet mine.

They weren’t sparkling with lust, they swirled with desire so intense my toes curled.

My climax had barely waned yet I needed more.

Jonas being Jonas, didn’t need my verbal demand.

In one fluid movement, he hooked the back of my knee in the crook of his arm, surged over me, then slammed home.

“I choose you,” he growled on a thrust.

Ohmigod.

“You hear me, Dee Dee,” he grunted on another drive. “It’s you.”
