Her little head pivoted to her brother then to Lucas.

“As long as Cole doesn’t steal my friend.”

“You’re my best friend, Juni. Just like my mom and your dad,” Lucas proclaimed.

“Just don’t forget it!” Juni demanded.

I was going to burst out into tears while simultaneously going up in flames.

I didn’t dare look over at Jase to see how he felt about another Cross-Turner best friends’ situation. Seeing as the last one that happened, the best-friend part turned into more and in that scenario, he was the one who had the penis.

Juni popped out of her seat and bopped her way around the table. I pulled out the empty chair next to me and shifted so my back was partially toward Jase.

“So, your dad told me you like diamond art.”

“I love it. It’s so much fun. I have a bunch done and mom just bought me two new ones. But they haven’t been delivered yet. How many have you done?”

Whoa. The girl could speed talk when she was excited.

“None. Yet.” I pulled my phone out of my purse and pulled up a picture of the one I ordered. “But I’m gonna try this one.”

Juni took my phone, and just like a child born in the technology era, she had no problem using her little fingers to enlarge the picture.

“Wow. That’s a hard one.”

Oh, shit.

I did know there were levels of difficulty. I knew I should’ve read the FAQ page.

“It is?”

“Oh yeah. You got an advanced kit.”

“Um. I’m not advanced,” I told her like she could magically rewind my idiocy and pick me out a different one to start with.

“That’s okay. I can help you with it.”

Now we were on shaky ground. I didn’t want to accept her offer without Jase’s permission, but I also didn’t want to ask her dad in front of her and put him on the spot.

“We’ll arrange that,” Jase easily put in.

“When Rainy comes over and the girls do the diamond stuff, will you set up my ramp in the backyard so me and Lucas can skateboard?” Colson asked.

“Sure. But two things,” Jase started. “We need to check and see if your old pads and helmet fit him. If not, then you’ll have to wait until we can get him his own gear. And two, you need to wait anyway, because you’re not riding your board until your wrist is healed.”
