I have to wait a few minutes for her response, which is fair. The twenty-third is in two days. In the meantime, I wander my sorry ass back down the stairs and off the roof. My truck waits for me in the parking lot, keys still inside with a handful of letters, just in case I didn’t make it off the roof alive tonight. I didn’t want to make it more difficult than necessary for my family to retrieve my things after.
