The athame’s handle was solid in my hands, and the forest grew still as if it was holding its breath. The bugs and birds went quiet. The wind stopped. I tested the blade with my thumb.
“I offer myself,” I breathed. “I offer my own blood as a sacrifice to summon the being I seek. Take this offering as my promise that I mean no harm.”
Blood welled in my palm after I dragged the sharp blade from the base of my middle finger to my wrist. Pain never bothered me—I even liked it during sex, but this pain was different. Like my blood was connecting me to the woods.
Still nothing.
“Fine. You win again,” I said as I grabbed the cloth I’d wrapped the dagger in to wipe the blood. Just as I was about to bring the cloth to my hand, it flew from my grasp and landed on the ground feet away.
How? With my gaze fixed on the fabric, I took a few steps forward before a cloaked figure descended in front of me from above.
My breath caught in my throat and my heart was going to burst from my chest. This was it. The shrouded being in front of me was the same one that had saved me. It floated just above the ground, never quite touching the leaves.
I couldn’t see inside its hood. The expanse of darkness enticed me to reach forward and push the hood down so I could see its face, but I didn’t. I stood rooted to the spot, blood still streaking my palm.
Not daring to move, the creature and I stood face to face, neither of us moving. It just hovered there facing me as if it were staring into the depths of my soul. Time passed, but I was oblivious to how much or how little.
Finally, the figure’s oversized sleeve lifted toward me and my breaths quickened. I gasped as fingers became visible beneath the sleeve as it rose higher, long, dainty gray hued fingers I suddenly wanted to touch. It wouldn’t hurt me right? Not after saving me? I didn’t feel any malice or disdain staining the breeze so I stood still. I really didn’t have a choice in the matter because if I tried to run it might make me drop dead with just a look like the man.
When the hand was level with mine, the creature waited. The gravity of the situation wasn’t a thought in my mind. The creature’s arm was postured in such a way that it seemed to be conveying it meant no ill will. Looking from the hand to the black opening of the hood, I didn’t understand what it wanted at first, but then it clicked.
Lips pursing in a thin line, I reached my cut hand toward the colorless one. My mind filled with a thousand questions as cold fingers gently ran along my upturned palm, careful to avoid the blood. The touch was so soothing my eyelids drooped. Was this some spell the creature weaved with its touch?
I lost track of time again as delicate fingers caressed my hand. They were unmarred and beautiful, the only differences from my own being a lack of color and extended length. Maybe this was some sort of human. Except humans didn’t fly or have disproportionate hands. Maybe it was a spirit or demon that came from the underworld or astral realm. Whatever it was, I was intoxicated by it.
The hood began to lower toward my hand while the fingers gently held me in place. Electricity jolted through me at the exchange. Something cold and wet lapped at my palm and arousal dampened my thighs as I realized it was the creature’s tongue. Like the fingers, it was long and cold, covering the entire gash. In every other way it was a typical tongue, except this one had me way more aroused.
It tasted my blood, licking my hand clean. Was this thing a vampire? It seemed like it could be. Those thoughts soon fled my mind as my arousal crested and threatened to send me over the edge.
“What are you?” I gasped, but was met with silence.
When the tongue quickened, my eyes rolled back in my head and I longed to be touched. Suppressing my moans didn’t work and I couldn’t help the whimpers that escaped my lips.
With a final lick, its head rose back up. I stared at the creature, willing it to answer me as words fell from my lips.
“What are you?” I asked again. “I want to see you.”
Still nothing as the fingers left my hand and the sleeve dropped back to the side of the robes. I stared at it, taking in the tattered cloth that was suspiciously clean looking for a forest dweller.
“For what it's worth, thank you,” I said, finally breaking the silence. “Thank you for saving me. The other night, I mean.” I sighed. “I wish I could understand. I want to understand why you did, but I also want to understand you.”
The creature began to float backward and I took a step after it. “Wait. I want to see you again. Will you come to me?” I rushed without thinking, surprised at my words. I didn’t know what I meant by ‘come to me’, but it felt like the right thing to say.
The thing kept floating backward, my attempts to close the distance futile. It was leaving.
After it disappeared into the darkness, a new determination flared. That wouldn’t be the last time I saw it. With renewed resolve, I packed my things and went home.
I got myself off as soon as I fell into bed. The hands—that tongue. I couldn’t stop thinking about them as I drove the few miles to my apartment. My body was still on fire and I needed release.
As I lay between the sheets after, I didn’t know what to think of the creature. I didn’t think it was a vampire, although it was possible. That was the closest explanation I could come to. No matter what it was, I wanted more, and I fell asleep thinking about that tongue.
It was here. The creature was in the room with me. It drifted over to the bed as I followed the movements with my eyes. It hovered by the bedside and cocked its hood to the side, almost as if asking permission.
I found myself nodding, telling the creature it could do whatever it wanted with me. It ascended up over the bed and hovered just above my waist. It didn’t touch me, but the covers peeled back off my body. I slept nude so the creature saw everything.
Modesty wasn’t something I cared about so I didn’t try to hide. The creature reached out its hand and trailed those fingers over my bare stomach and down my thigh. It reached forward with both hands and pushed my knees up and apart so my pussy was on full display.
The thing lowered itself to the bed and the dark hood got closer and closer to the apex of my thighs. Its gray tongue slithered out of the darkened oval and my pulse was like horses thundering in my chest. I closed my eyes in anticipation of the touch, but nothing came.
