Heat crept up my spine, my muscles coiling with desire. Was it lust? I wasn’t sure. I’d never felt like this before. This unreasonable, complete disregard for reason. All I knew was that I wanted her, and if that meant I got bossed around, I didn’t care.

The tips of her claws pushed through my hair, scraping across my scalp. A shiver worked up my spine, and I shuddered with anticipation. “Put the coffee down.”

Her command rippled through me. Her voice was rich, deep, and sexy. “Yes—yes, ma’am,” I stammered. I got to my feet and put her mug next to mine.

My heart and cock pulsed to the same beat. I didn’t know her name yet, but I didn’t care. My sphinx date swept me up into her arms and carried me out of the cafe like a bride. She was so tall. Her shoulders had to be twice as broad as mine.

Her wings spread behind her, gleaming under the slanted ray of light that broke through the dark bank of clouds.

I had no idea where she was taking me, but this was really happening. The cafe stood behind us, the neon sign blinking in the window. Through the glass, I could see the Barista watching us. But even he didn’t seem to be worried, and if he was, he would have intervened.

Her muscles coiled as if she were about to take off.

“Wait,” I said. A bubble of nerves burst in my chest. “Wait, I don’t even know your name.”

“Eleni.” She smirked. Her grip on me tightened. “Or Leni. But don’t worry. You’ll be calling me Mistress most of the time.”

Okay. My eyes widened as Leni took off into the air. I squeaked, winding my arms around her neck and finding my face between her tits. Oh gods. Fuck. I started to draw back, but she pushed my head down, holding my face there.

Gods, her scent. My mouth watered enough I was certain I might drool onto her perfect tits. Was she really my mate? Was she really who I’d been matched with?

Was this what it felt like?

Sadness took root as I thought about my past. About the person I’d been so certain was my fated mate, and yet I’d been wrong. But the desire I’d had for them paled in comparison to this. That had been a spark that never caught, whereas this was already a roaring flame. Hell, it was a pit of lava.

The pain from that time in my life lost some of its edge.

If this was what having a fated mate was like, then all of the insanity I’d seen in others suddenly made a lot more sense. How many times had I heard about the whirlwind of my fathers’ romance? They’d left out a lot of details, thankfully. But their love story was ingrained in my heart. Three days had changed their lives forever. And it wasn’t even like they were the only ones. So many of my aunts and uncles had something like this happen too.

It made sense.

Leni didn’t know my name. She didn’t know me. I didn’t know her.

But I’d let her do anything she fucking wanted to me.

My blood hummed with electricity as the wind whipped through my hair, cool against my skin. It took about half an hour before we landed in a thick forest at the base of a mountain range I recognized. She must have flown fast, because we were about two hours outside the city by car.

Leni didn’t put me down, though. Instead, she carried me in the direction of two trees that bowed toward each other. The moment she stepped between their thick trunks, the air around us shimmered, and we were no longer outside.

We were in a cozy, well-loved living room with rich brown oak floors, a massive couch with a couple of crocheted throw blankets, and three windows showing a glittering night sky. Her scent warmed the air, bathing me in comfort.

“Is this your home?” I asked.

“Yes,” she answered. “And it’s very far from where we were. I made a portal so it would be easy to bring you here.”

“And where is here?”

“A small island in the Aegean Sea that I’ve lived on for over a thousand years. Honestly, I’ve lost track of the centuries, so I can’t give you an exact number. But it is my forever home.”

Once again, my mouth dropped.

So much for a casual coffee date. This was already so different than what I’d expected, and yet I wasn’t going to protest. I did need to remember to text the family group chat and let them know I was out for the weekend though. The last thing I needed was for someone from my family to show up on our doorstep.

Leni put me down carefully, her claws gliding through my dark hair again. I shivered as they dragged over my scalp. The sensation made me moan. Maybe I liked being petted, because this felt so good.

Her expression softened. “You are very cute.”

I blushed even more as she kept petting me. “Thank you.”
