“Maybe he forgot where the base was,” Cy said.
Bang rolled his eyes. “He should be here.” His stomach tightened as a bad feeling rolled through him. Something was terribly wrong.
“I’ve called him twice, and he hasn’t answered,” Foster said.
Bang drew in a slow breath, knowing he had to say something. “Something is wrong.”
“How wrong do you think it is?” Cy asked.
Wave held Cy’s gaze. “We need to look for him.”
The commander came over, concern on his face. “He hasn’t shown up?”
“No, sir,” Cy said.
The commander shook his head. “I don’t like this.”
They were in the secure room, and their phones were outside, tucked into a cubby. “Let me grab my phone.”
Bang left the room and grabbed his phone. A year ago, they’d decided to share locations. It wasn’t something they had to do. It was just a way of keeping up with each other. T had gotten drunk one night, and he’d ended up being roofied. Luckily, he’d realized there was a problem and shared his location with Thario before he passed out. Thario had directed them to T’s location. After that, they decided to share where they were. T also decided to stop going out and partying alone.
Bang had been thinking about deleting the ability for the application to show where he was, not because he thought his privacy was being invaded, but because he just didn’t think it was necessary. Now he was thankful he hadn’t stopped sharing his location because he had access to Wave’s location.
The guys crowded around, watching him pull up the app. Wave wasn’t anywhere close to base, and he wasn’t at home.
“Where is he?” Cy asked.
“Something is wrong,” Bang said. “He’s nowhere near where he is supposed to be.”
The commander was there, shaking his head. “This could be associated with the mission. I’ll send MP’s to his house and see if something is wrong. You all go track him down and get him to safety.”
Bang had no clue what they would be walking into, but he had a feeling this was bad. There wasn’t any way Wave had slagged off. He wouldn’t travel in the opposite direction of base if he was supposed to be on base. Wave was a serious guy and loved his job. This had to be something bad, and they needed to intervene.
“We’re going in hot, right?” Bang asked the guys.
“Hell yes. Something is wrong, and we’re going to get our buddy back,” Cy said. “Let’s get some equipment before we leave.”
Bang took off with the group, heading to the area where they stored their equipment. Operating in the USA was frowned upon, but this was a special circumstance. Wave was in trouble, and it could be related to national security. They would do whatever they had to do to save their friend.
CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE
Gina kept her eyes on Wave as they unloaded him from the back of the van. He hadn’t woken up, but he had moaned a few times, which meant he was still alive. They needed to get him to a hospital, but first, she had to get away from these jerks with both Wave and Cass. It seemed impossible.
Cass had been hit again, but she was conscious. They had her sitting at a table, her hands chained to the table and her legs tied to the chair. She’d put up a fight, and that’s when she’d been hit again.
Gina hated that she was the reason both Cass and Wave were in danger. If only she had the thumb drive, but she didn’t. Why did this guy think she had the drive?
Had that woman told him she had the drive? Maybe she had, and that was the reason this jerk was targeting her.
“Why do you think I have the thumb drive?” She didn’t expect a reasonable answer from Pete, but she had to get him talking. Anything to delay him from killing them. If Wave woke up, maybe he wouldn’t be too injured, and he would be able to save them.
It was a stretch. It would take a miracle for them to be saved, but maybe there was one more miracle out there for them.
“Because Anna said you had it.”
“Anna?”
“The woman you bumped into and got into the cab with. She told me you had it.”
