Even though I was still pissed, I softened to her touch. “Well, we have two days to get ready. Let’s all go to our rooms and get settled in, and we’ll meet in my room tonight to go over logistics.”

“See you guys tonight,” Piper said before rising.

Knox followed suit. I turned off my phone and turned to Irene. “I’m still pissed. And I don’t like this.”

“I know.”

“But right now, none of that matters.”

She lifted an eyebrow.

“All that matters is getting you up to my room and out of this dress.”

She giggled as I scooped her up into my arms and raced her toward my room.

CHAPTER SIXTEEN

Irene

––––––––

When I awoke in Marcus’s arms, I couldn’t suppress the instantaneous smile that spread across my face when I looked up at him. I’d done it. I’d swallowed down all the fear that had hounded me each day of my life and gotten myself from Costa Rica to Cartagena. I’d gotten myself back to Marcus.

And I’d done it by myself.

I swelled with pride as I remembered how many times I’d gone to turn back and how many times I’d forced myself to keep going. The need to see Marcus again and the need to be part of saving my father dwarfed all the fears the statistics and facts tried drilling into my head. The chances I’d be kidnapped, the chances my bus would crash, the chances a huge storm would hit while I was on the boat and sweep us out to sea, the chances I’d slip on the deck and plunge directly into an awaiting shark’s mouth. Okay, that one was almost a nonexistent percentage of probability, but the others had all posed enough of a risk I’d normally have turned and gone the other way. But I hadn’t. I’d fought through the fear and found my way back to Marcus.

I’d known where and when he’d planned on meeting Knox, and I’d known if I missed this chance, I may never see him again. As quickly as he’d come into my life, he’d have been gone. Even though he’d said he’d find me after it was safe, deep down, I knew that his old fears of the dangers in his life may prevent him from moving forward with me. That PTSD he had that told him never to settle down, never to stop... never to care. It would tell him he’d put me in danger if we were together. But there was nothing more terrifying to me than a life without Marcus. Hoping and praying he’d find his way back to me wasn’t a risk I was willing to take. And now that I had him, there wasn’t anything that could stop me from being at his side. Not even the crippling fear I’d faced traveling from Costa Rica to Colombia all by myself.

“You gonna just keep staring at me like a weirdo, or are you gonna kiss me already?”

I’d thought he was still sleeping, but he opened his eyes and smiled. I blushed when I realized I had been staring at his face like a weirdo. Instead of letting me explain, he reached over, slid a hand behind my head, and pulled me down for a kiss. The oxytocin flooded my body again as his tongue slipped past my lips. He’d already given every inch of my body his undivided attention last night, but once again, it begged for his touch.

I slid my leg over him and straddled his naked body. His cock, already rock hard and ready, pressed against me as I moved up it.

“Good morning to me.” He smiled, slipping his hands down the small of my back and gripping my hips.

I let my head fall back as I slid down the length of him, gasping when he filled me once again. We moved as one, our bodies connecting in a way that transcended pure physical pleasure. For once in my life, I didn’t have an explanation for something, and I didn’t care. The chemistry between Marcus and me was deeper than anything science could ever explain.

Marcus grabbed me by the waist and flipped me over. I gasped as he pressed my face down into the bed.

“I missed this view,” he whispered as he ran his hands along my lifted ass cheeks.

Normally I would have felt self-conscious with the lights on and knowing he had a full view of me from behind, but I’d left those fears with the old Irene. Instead, I got wetter as I spread my legs wider for him, arching my back and enticing him to touch me.

Marcus slid his hand up between my legs and dipped his fingers inside of me. I pushed back against him, desperate for him to fill me up again. His thumb thrummed against my swollen spot as he moved his fingers in and out of me while he stroked me to come and scream out his name. Before I could even finish my orgasm, his cock thrust inside of me, and he grabbed my waist, sinking himself inside as I finished coming apart.

He gave me no time to recover, instead taking me with hard, punishing strokes until I felt his body tighten and his fingers dug into my hips as he steadied me. With a long exhale, he finished and rolled over, flopping onto his back. Satiated and boneless, I collapsed into his arms.

“Damn, girl,” he whispered, then kissed my lips. “You keep that up, and I’m never going to let you out of my sight ever again.”

“Well, you’re going to have to. I’ve got a mission to do tomorrow.”

He grumbled his displeasure and let out a hefty sigh.

“I’ll be fine. I’ll be with Piper, and you said yourself she’s unstoppable. Didn’t you tell me about a time her mission went sideways, and she took out twelve armed guards with a single knife?”

“Yes, but—”
