“Wes? Are you okay?”

He closed his eyes for a beat and blew out a breath. “I know this is pretty new, you and me dating. And I know things have been kinda crazy this past month with you recovering from your injury. Things moved super-fast, moving you into my place.”

“Oh,” I said softly. “I get it.”

He furrowed his brow.

“This is the ‘It’s too soon for us to live together and since you are recovered, you should probably move out’ speech, isn’t it? That’s totally cool. I mean, it’s been fun living with you, but I get it. You need your space.”

Wes burst out laughing. “Wow. For being a stealth operative, you really have a terrible grasp on what’s happening here.”

Now I was the one with the furrowed brow.

He paused and ran a hand down the back of his neck. “Shit. I wasn’t going to do this now, right in the middle of my sister’s wedding, but I seriously can’t wait another second. I’m not asking you to move out, Piper. In fact, the opposite. What I’m trying to say is that things have moved fast, but...” He stepped toward me and slid my hands in his. “I love every second of it. It feels like we’ve been together forever. And we kind of have, I guess, but as teammates before. Now we’re a couple, and I don’t want to spend another minute of my life without you. So, no. I’m not asking you to move out. In fact, I’m asking you to move in. Permanently.”

“Oh.” I smiled. “Really? You want to live together?”

“Yes,” he answered. “But not just that.”

I tipped my head when I saw the mirth flash in his eyes, then my stomach plummeted when he reached into his coat pocket. “Wait... are you?”

“Proposing? Yes.” He grinned. “I’ve been sitting on this ring for weeks because I didn’t want to steal the thunder from my sister’s wedding. Lord knows I already blew up one wedding of hers.” He sucked the air through his teeth. “But you know what, screw it. I love you, Piper. I want to spend the rest of my life with you, and I can’t sit on this ring for one more second. Would you do me the great honor, an honor I definitely don’t deserve, and move in permanently... as my wife?”

My mouth dropped open when he sunk to one knee, and I saw the ring he pulled out sparkling in the moonlight.

“I know it’s soon. I know we haven’t been dating long. But I love you, Piper. And you love me. And we know each other inside and out. My family loves you, I love you, and I know we’re made for each other, baby. So please, do me the honor of being my wife and joining this crazy family of mine?”

I didn’t even have to think about an answer because the word tumbled right out. “Yes!”

“Yes?” His eyes widened. “Seriously?”

I grinned widely. “Yes. Yes, I will marry you. Yes!”

“Holy shit!”

Wes stood up and yanked me against him, crushing my mouth with his kiss. I leaned into him, wrapping my arms around his neck as I let the last of my fears wash away with the waves crashing next to us.

His wife. Me and Wes forever. When I first met him, I’d never have imagined this moment in a million years, but now it was a dream I could hardly believe was coming true.

“You’ve just made me the happiest man in the world,” he said as he broke apart our kiss.

“The happiest Incredibly Handsome Man?” I teased as he stepped back then slipped the gorgeous ring on my finger.

Wes laughed. “Exactly.”

Our laughs mingled together as we stood on the beach, our hearts full of the love tethering the two of us together.

“My mother is going to scream when we tell her. Loudly. So, we have to keep this to ourselves tonight. I don’t want to take the attention off Amanda.”

“After what she went through for us, that girl deserves all the attention today.”

“I know she wouldn’t care because she adores you and already thinks of you as family. She’s going to be so excited for us, but just to be safe, this will be our little secret. I really didn’t intend to do this on her big day, and I’d actually booked a cruise for us tomorrow where I was going to pop the question, but damn, girl. Looking at you in that dress under the moon?” He blew out a slow whistle. “Sue me for jumping the gun and begging you to be my wife.”

I slid my arms around his waist. “We’ve made a living as covert operatives, so what’s one more little secret we keep from everyone else for a while?”

Wes’s million-dollar smile lit up the night. “I like it. We’re such rebels. A couple of rule-breaking badasses.”

I smirked. “Just the way I like it. But not as much as I’m going to like being your wife.”
