“Oh, God,” she breathed as she tightened around me.

My own orgasm built to uncontrollable as I leaned back and let the release wash over me as she moaned out her own. When I opened my eyes, I saw the swirls of color still suspending over our heads. Heaving heavy breaths, I dragged my eyes from the incredible sights above us and met her satiated gaze.

The colors above us were beautiful, but nothing was more beautiful than the look in her eyes as she stared back at me.

A moment ago, I hadn’t thought it was possible to be any happier, but being here with her, in this way, shattered any happiness I’d ever felt before. I pulled her back against me and crushed her lips with my kiss. I held her body against me... the body I would never, ever let go.

CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

JENNA

––––––––

I felt the warmth of a body beside me as I started to awaken, and for a hot second, I panicked. Then I remembered who was next to me.

Carter. I was in bed with Carter.

A smile lifted my lips as I snuggled tighter against him. As I lay there with my eyes closed, pieces of the evening started coming back to me. Like a movie playing in fast forward, our night together refilled my mind.

The beach. The kissing. The touching. The sex.

Well, so much for my plan to put a stop to this.

But after spending an entire night in his arms, I could barely remember the reasons I’d vowed to stay out of them. We’d stayed up all night, laughing and talking just like we used to. With Carter, I felt like everything just came so naturally. It was hard to explain how you could feel so close to someone so quickly—like you’d known them your whole life. And that was how I felt with him. Our connection had remained strong even through all the years apart.

I blinked open my eyes and found his bright blue ones staring back at me.

“You still snore,” Carter whispered, wrapping me up tighter.

I stiffened in his arms, grimacing. “Um. It was Arnold.”

Carter chuckled, and it echoed in his chest where my head lay. “Oh, he snores too. It was like a symphony of trombones in here last night.”

Heat flushed my face as I buried it against him. “Sorry. It’s my deviated septum.”

His fingers twirled through my hair. “I liked it. It was soothing. Like a little song that consistently reminded me you were really here, and you hadn’t ghosted me.”

“You liked my snoring?”

“It’s cute.” He kissed the top of my head. “Arnold though? Jesus. He could bring down the whole house.”

Hearing his name caused Arnold to lift his head from the spot he’d crawled into when we’d fallen asleep last night. He grumbled and snuffed, then dragged his overweight body on top of us.

“Oof,” Carter grunted when Arnold lay his full weight on his stomach. “You need to eat some veggies, man. Start running or something.”

“I know,” I sighed. “He’s just really good at begging for food, and I’m really bad at telling him no.”

“You’re really bad at telling me no too.” Carter chuckled.

“Ugh. Don’t I know it,” I admitted on a sigh. “Damn it! I had a plan.”

“You? A plan? Never!” he teased.

“Shut up.”

“Sorry. Go on. What was this plan of yours?”

“Well, first, it was to pretend I was in a coma and avoid you the whole week.”
