“I’m impossible not to like,” Carter called over his shoulder as he poured the grounds in the filter.

Laughing at the accurate statement, I shrugged and gestured to my porch. “It’s true. Well, shall we?”

Jo nodded. “I cannot wait to hear this story.”

Carter came over and gave me a kiss, tapping my butt before he went back to the kitchen. “I’ll bring coffee out in a minute, baby.”

Jo’s grin was so wide I worried her face would split.

“Quit looking at me like that.” I yanked her by the arm and pulled her out on the porch with me.

As I settled into the wicker rocking chair, Arnold trotted over from where he’d gone potty and climbed into my lap.

“Spill,” Jo demanded when she sat in the chair beside me.

I started at the beginning, back on the yacht the last night I’d seen her. By the time I finished, Carter had come out with eggs and bacon, complete with buttered toast.

“Oh, my God. He makes bacon too?” Jo closed her eyes and moaned while she inhaled the tantalizing scents. “Hang onto this one, Jenna.”

“You hear that?” he said as he handed me a plate. “Even your sister approves.”

“She has to. If this doesn’t work out, then I get to blame her since it’s all her fault for busting me out.”

I arched an eyebrow and gave her an accusatory stare.

With a shrug, she put a piece of bacon in her mouth instead of answering.

Carter walked over and placed his hand on my shoulder. “Listen, I have to go and meet Eric and the boys for a round of golf in an hour, so I’ve got to get going.”

“Oh, yeah,” I said. “It’s bachelor party day!”

“Yep. Golfing all day and drinks with the boys tonight.”

“Yeah. You’d better get home and get ready. Mr. Bronson is not a fan of people who run late.”

He leaned down and pressed a kiss to my lips, hovering there for a few long moments while I sighed.

“Is it okay if I come over here after the party tonight?”

“Yeah. Of course. I’ll be here. Cameron and I have to finish the final details for the wedding, so we’ll be working here and at the Bronson’s all day. The tent and tables are getting set up tomorrow afternoon, but I should be home by nine. Just come on by when you’re done.”

“Good. I’ll try to get out of it early. I don’t want to miss spending a single second with you if I can help it.”

With a sigh, I kissed him again. When he stood back up, Jo stared at us, smiling.

Carter gave her a nod. “Good to see you again, Jo. Enjoy your breakfast, and I hope Jenna is admitting how much she adores me and telling you what a fantastic guy I am.”

With a wink, he blew me a kiss as Jo dissolved into laughter.

“Okay. I really like this guy,” she said as he walked back in the house.

With a heavy sigh, I admitted, “Me too.”

We ate our breakfasts, and Carter called goodbye before he left. After his car pulled out of the drive, Jo set down her plate and turned to me.

“Okay. Serious shit now. Is this really happening? What is the plan here?”

Shrugging, I settled back in my chair. “For the first time in my life, I don’t have a plan.”
