Adam thought that he would be nervous meeting Tate’s parents. He’d only been in long-term relationships with two people before, and he’d been anxious around both of their parents. Even though they’d been mostly nice people, he was always worried that he’d mess up.

As they drove out to the suburbs, though, he felt strangely relaxed. He knew that Tate’s parents would be assholes, so he wasn’t worried about impressing them. He also knew that if they said something mean to him, Tate would take his side. And possibly walk out in the middle of dinner, which he’d apparently done before, along with his sister’s family.

So Adam would be the perfect, doting boyfriend. Not because he worried that the assholes would be disappointed in their son’s choice, but to shove it in their faces. A catty part of him thought it might be fun.

He also realized that he was less anxious because Tate was getting tense. It wasn’t a role reversal he’d been expecting, but he wanted to be there for Tate.

If he were anxious, Tate would have given him more structure and reassurance. But since that wasn’t their dynamic, he was going for the opposite.

He opened innocently. “How should I act around your parents?”

Tate gave him a look of concern. “Just be yourself, baby. If they don’t like you, it’s on them, and we can always leave if it gets bad.”

“So, we can hold hands?”

“Absolutely.” Tate reached down and stroked his fingers.

“How about kissing? Is that too much?”

Tate shrugged. “Bring it on. Well, like, family-appropriate kisses. I don’t want to make out in front of them. And there are certain things my nieces shouldn’t see.”

“What about if I need cuddles. Can I sit in your lap?”

Tate gave him a look. “You can sit next to me and we can put our arms around each other.”

“Alright. What about my cock cage? What if you need to inspect it?”

“Adam!” He sounded shocked and angry, but he couldn’t be that surprised. He was the one who had put it back on after Adam’s very satisfying spanking last night.

“What? You had me send you pictures of it yesterday while you were at work, so I figured you’d need to inspect it regularly. Oh, I know! Maybe I can just go into the bathroom and send you a picture. You know, if you need one during dinner.”

“Er… Are you trying to distract me?”

“Yes. Is it working?”

“It is, actually. Thank you, Little Star, for being the best brat a Daddy could ask for.”

“Believe me, it’s my pleasure. So, about that inspection. Maybe there could be a secret code. Like spies! Or we could meet up in the bathroom…”

The visit, disappointingly, went exactly as Tate had predicted.

Adam had a nice chat with Tate’s brother-in-law, Min, about the music scene in NYC, since he played in a band in his free time. Tate’s sister, Cathy, had pumped him with questions, then straight-out told him that he seemed to be a good fit for her brother.

He didn’t have the heart to tell her that this was only a thing for the week. It felt to good to imagine.

The kids, who had both Chinese names and English names, spoke both languages fluently. Naturally, they teased him when he tried to share what little he had learned yesterday.

The adorable girls sat on his lap when he offered to read a story. They even started calling him Uncle Adam when their parents suggested it.

He didn’t correct them either, even though the magical bubble that was his life with Tate was going to burst on Monday night. This time, he told himself that it would make a better show for Tate’s parents.

And he liked being Uncle Adam.

Tate’s parents, unfortunately, lived up to expectations as well. He’d gone through several exhausting rounds of, “Cathy’s sister? I didn’t know Tate had another sibling!” and “Tanya? I don’t know anyone named Tanya...”

They would not let it fucking rest. Adam hadn’t even known Tate’s birth name until they stepped in the door, and it seemed like his parents were trying to bludgeon him over the head with it.
