Remi rose, trying again to ignore his aching back, and put both containers on the shelf. “What were you singing to your toys?”
“The shema. It means sssshhhhhh…” Isaac put a finger up to his lips to demonstrate.
“Yeah? Where did you learn it?”
“Grown-ups.”
Not helpful. “And you sing it at bedtime?”
“Yeah. And at shul.”
There it was. So, a Jewish bedtime-and-at-shul prayer, which meant that Isaac was Jewish. There were clearly so many things that they needed to learn about each other. Remi felt like he was only skimming the surface.
But for the first time in a very long time, there was a boy he wanted to know more about. With Isaac, he wanted to know everything.
Remi laced his fingers through Isaac’s and started moving them toward the stairs. “Where do you want to sleep tonight, sleepy boy?”
Isaac froze for just a second and then kept walking.
This time, Remi had a better idea of what was going on, or at least he hoped. “I’d love to have a tired boy cuddle with me tonight in my big bed. But I could also tuck you into your bed and give you a goodnight kiss. Or I could have a slumber party in your room.”
“Just for sleepies?”
Yep, that was it. “Sleepies and maybe some snuggling? I’m very good at snuggling.”
“OK, Daddy.”
That wasn’t a full answer, but that was good enough for Remi. “Let’s go up to Daddy’s room. You’re already in your PJs. If I give you an extra toothbrush, do you need anything else from your room?”
Isaac considered. “No, Daddy.”
“Good. We can get all of your things in the morning.” He needed to get his tired boy bundled into bed.
“OK, Daddy,” Isaac said again, already leaning heavily against Remi as they waited for the elevator. His soft, blond hair brushed Remi’s cheek.
Remi knew that he’d probably be awake half the night just marveling at the wonder of Isaac in his arms and trying to ignore his erection.
And it would be completely worth it.

Isaac
Isaac woke up instantly, like he always did, but it still took him a few moments to remember where he was. In a hotel… in the mountains outside of Portland… with his Daddy!
He rolled over in his enthusiasm, to find Remi fast asleep, a soft snuffling sound emerging with each breath. He was wearing a soft white t-shirt, which Isaac vaguely remembered from last night. After he’d made sure Isaac brushed his teeth and used the toilet—from the other side of the bathroom door—he’d told Isaac that they were both going to wear clothes that were good for cuddling. He didn’t even mention taking the clothes off, which Isaac had been grateful for. That made it the perfect, cozy night.
And now Isaac got to have more. Isaac rested his head on his palm to watch Daddy sleep. God, he was attractive. He had a full, thick body that Isaac adored, the type of bulk and padding that made him think of comfort and strength. The fact that he actually couldn’t lift Isaac up and toss him around had nothing to do with it. It was more that his outsides matched everything Isaac had experienced with him so far—that he was one hundred percent Daddy.
Isaac didn’t want to wake him, but he felt like he needed to touch, just to make sure he was real. He stroked his fingers through Daddy’s dark hair, following the natural curve that swooped over his forehead.
Daddy grumbled. “Too early.” Then he pulled Isaac closer and… mmmmm... that was exquisite. Daddy was snuggly and heavy with sleep, hard and soft in all the right places as their bodies pressed together.
In fact, very hard in one place that was pressing against Isaac’s thigh where it wrapped around Daddy’s leg. Even through Isaac’s jammies and Daddy’s boxers it was very… warm and long and exciting.
Isaac froze, both pulsing with desire to touch and worried about what it might mean.
On the heels of that thought, came the familiar stomach-dropping disappointment that he would never have a body like that. At least not without a lot of surgeries that he wasn’t sure he wanted.
