Daddy groaned, but not in a sexy way. More like he couldn’t imagine doing anything so horrifying so early in the morning. “Yes, sweetheart. You may go to the gym. Then find something cute to wear and come back to me.”

“Yes, Daddy!”

It was five forty-three a.m. and he was already having the best day ever.

It was a quarter to nine when Isaac finally couldn’t stand it any longer and woke Daddy up with a hand on his shoulder.

“Hey, sweetheart,” Remi mumbled, turning over. It was like everything with him was completely natural. Like they’d done this a thousand times before.

“Hi, Daddy!”

Daddy blinked his eyes open, and then blinked again. The look on his face when he saw Isaac’s outfit was one that he would remember forever. Daddy even swallowed heavily, like he had to remember how, and when he spoke his voice was thick. “I like your overalls.”

“Thank you, Daddy.” The shorts part of the outfit barely covered his butt, and he loved the feel of the bib strapped over his chest. “It has lots of good pockets.” He stuck his hands in, showing them off. “I found this in your suitcase, too.”

Digging through Daddy’s suitcase this morning had felt naughty and thrilling, like getting a secret peek into who Daddy was without him even being there. Well, at least while he was asleep in the bed across the room.

But Daddy told him he could do it. It was almost like Daddy didn’t want to have any secrets. Like he wanted to open up everything to Isaac. Isaac had gotten a jolt of pleasure from just unzipping the stiff fabric case.

Half of the suitcase was packed just how Isaac would have expected, with a neat stack of boring adult clothing for the varying mountain temperatures. The other half though… There were coloring books and a ziplock bag of play dough with tools. Three onesies with animal designs on them and three matching pairs of soft cotton shorts with elastic at the waist. A hoodie with a kangaroo pocket that had a picture of an actual kangaroo baby popping out above it. Isaac didn’t like kangaroos as much as dinosaurs as a little, but he wanted that sweatshirt to be his.

Then he’d reached into the thin lining on the top of the case and found a very different set of toys. Padded handcuffs and a blindfold. A flogger with soft falls and a tawse that would give a harsher smack. A new buttplug, still in its elegant black package.

The treasures—for both kinds of play—had just kept going, but the first thing Isaac had done was slip into the bathroom and swap out his own shirt for Daddy’s blue onesie with the porcupine on the front. It had to be the one Daddy had mentioned last night, and he already felt like it was his.

Daddy clearly approved. “Those outfits are all for you,” he said, sounding reverent. “Even after this weekend…” Something flashed across Daddy’s eyes, like he didn’t want this weekend to end either. “They’re only for you.”

It seemed like an awfully big gift, but it was obvious that this wasn’t about the money for either of them. Isaac was probably going to sleep with one of those onesies on his pillow for the rest of the year, even if he wasn’t anywhere that he could wear them. “I like the kangaroo hoodie.”

Daddy smiled. “I hoped you would.” Daddy glanced at the clock. “Uh oh. It’s later than I thought. I put on my card that I’d do breakfast at nine, so we better get moving.”

“I told them eight originally, but I already changed it. Ty said it would be OK if we were five or ten minutes late. Just not more than that.”

“Ty?” Daddy questioned.

“You remember, the guy who brought down the cheese trays last night.” The guy who was trans and said that all of the Meadowlark staff was some type of queer or non-binary, too.

“Oh, right.” Daddy seemed to have only a fuzzy memory. “Do you remember everyone’s names?”

“I think so. I mean, we were chanting them all last night at the mixer. Jamie organized it really well.”

“Wow. That’s quite a talent, baby boy. I only remember Jamie’s name because we emailed a few times. And Neil, I guess, because he looked so worried.”

“Yeah, but we don’t have to worry about him any more.”

“Nope,” Daddy agreed. “Alright, time to get moving.” He stretched, and wasn’t that a sight. “Give me fifteen minutes and we can go eat.”

Daddy disappeared into the bathroom and Isaac took the opportunity to text Tommy, who was hopefully awake now. He was in the middle of the fifth or sixth super long text, when the phone rang.

“Hey, is your Daddy’s last name Carson?” Tommy asked without even giving him a greeting.

“I dunno. We didn’t talk about it. Let me go look in his suitcase.”

“Isaac! You can’t do that!”

“Yes I can. Daddy said so. How do you think I found the coloring books and handcuffs? Anyway, why are you asking?”

“Because I think my Daddy knows your Daddy.”
