Izzy beamed.
The two of them were wading in the river, shoes abandoned on the shore. Remi had managed to keep his shorts dry, but Izzy’s outfit was splashed with water—even though his shorts were cut so high that Remi could see the bold green of his onesie sticking out every time he leaned over.
He ended up leaning over a lot, and Remi couldn’t take his eyes off of those muscular legs dotted with drops of water that shimmered where they caught in his pale hair. Unless, of course, it was to watch Izzy’s delighted smile and warm blue eyes.
Combined with the feel of the round river stones and the shade of trees hanging over the sparkling water, it was like something out of a dream.
“Feel it in your hand, Daddy!”
Remi did as he was bid. “It’s nice and smooth.”
“I know! Can you hold it for me?”
Remi laughed. “I’m all out of pockets. If you want to keep that one, we’ll have to put some back.”
Izzy pouted. “I’m going to put them in a pile over there.” He turned quickly and stumbled.
Remi grabbed for him. “Be careful. You need to hold Daddy’s hand. Those rocks are slippery.”
“Sorry, Daddy.” Izzy looked truly contrite, holding carefully to Remi’s hand as they made their way back to the shore.
Remi switched hands so that he could get one arm around Izzy’s back. He just needed to be closer to him.
In three more hours, they’d be checking out of the lodge. In four more hours, he’d be dropping Izzy off at Tommy’s house. Maybe five if he could stretch it out and take Izzy to one last lunch.
He already knew that he didn’t ever want to let him go. But the best he could do was squeeze him a little closer
“Ooh! A fishy!” Izzy pointed at a streak of silver darting away.
“If we stay very still, they might come back.”
Izzy managed to stay still for about ten seconds. “Can we feed them Daddy?”
Remi shook his head. “Sorry, baby boy. These are wild fishies. They’re not supposed to eat people food.”
“I could be a fishy!” He wriggled around, shaking his hips.
“You could! And fortunately, you’re a tame fishy, so I can feed you. Let’s go have a snack, fishy Izzy.”
Izzy giggled. “Fishy Izzy. That rhymes.”
It didn’t rhyme, but close enough.
Remi herded Izzy to the shore and unloaded his bulging pockets, leaving Izzy’s treasures for him to arrange on a large sun-warmed rock. He pulled some snacks out of the diaper bag, choosing another flat rock for the two of them to sit on.
“Oooh! Peanut butter crackers. And smiley apples.” Izzy looked up from his pebble arranging for long enough to notice the snacks, and then went back to his important work of sorting them into indecipherable categories.
Smiley apples turned out to be the pre-cut slices in individual packages. Remi had gotten all of these snacks, and a few more, from Sebastian at the lodge’s front desk last night.
Now that he knew about this place, he would definitely have to come out here again. The staff had been amazing at supporting his needs as a Daddy of a little.
And, he had to admit, he was curious about how the lodge owners were getting on with their shy, older boy. The three of them had chemistry that was tangible to anyone who walked past, though when he spied either of the boys alone they looked more wistful than anything else.
He hoped it worked out for them. At least they had a chance.
Their boy wasn’t flying across the country in a few days.
And with that thought, Remi lost any interest in signing up for the next kinky event at the Meadowlark Lodge.
