"Only because I couldn't do it myself," I said, half-distracted. How was I supposed to think with his chest against my breasts?
The rain drummed on the roof in time with my racing heart. If not for the storm, I could walk away, but would I? My clit was doing a good impression of a needy brat right now. Pulsing instead of remembering I was mad at him. Hussy.
"Is that what you're telling yourself?" He seemed amused. "If you could have got yourself off, you would have walked away and done it? You would have told me no? Would you have used your fingers or a vibrator?"
"It doesn't matter, because I couldn't use either," I argued weakly.
The more we talked about it, the more I wished I'd stashed the lipstick vibrator in my bag. For emergencies, of course. You never know when you might need an orgasm or two. Not that I needed the toy the first time we met. Thank fuck fingers were portable.
His hand tightened around the back of my head. "Of course it matters. We both know that isn't what would have happened."
"Do we?" I asked. "Did it cross your mind to put the movie on and see what I'd do without that rule? I think you enjoy messing with me."
A thought popped into my head. A suspicion. One I didn't care to think about, but the moment it was in my mind, I couldn't unthink it.
"Did you do something to my car? Did you know it was going to stop right there?" I jerked my head back in that direction. Away from his touch.
He didn't flinch or even seem surprised I asked. Nor was he angry at the accusation. If anything, he seemed to find it funny. Of course he did. He was a twisted fuck at the best of times.
"No," he said easily. "You drive a rust bucket. That thing was about to go at any moment."
His brow creased. "Maybe you were the one who did something to it. This is the road I use to get to and from work every day. You might have set it up so you'd stop right there and wait for me."
He looked at me sideways, but his accusation wasn't serious. He knew as well as I did I wouldn't do something like that, even if I knew how. My car was not on the list of things I wanted to mess with.
"How do you fit in this car with an ego that big?" I asked. "I didn't do anything to my car. It was just…"
At the same time we said, "A rust bucket."
I sighed softly. "I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. It's been on its last legs…wheels for a long time." It was practically held together with tape and positive thinking.
Much like my life right now.
"No shit." He smirked. "That piece of shit should have been dragged off to the junkyard a long time ago. On the other hand, I don't know any self-respecting dump who'd take it. There's probably nothing salvageable left."
"It wasn't that bad," I argued. "She's…antique.”
"Midcentury modern with distressed look?" He grunted a laugh.
"Exactly." I bit back a laugh. I felt bad making fun of my car when she was on the side of the road, possibly to never go again.
My smile faded and I didn't feel so much like laughing anymore. Without that car, getting around Saltgrave was going to be a lot more difficult. Particularly on nights like this.
"We'll deal with it," Fade said, as if reading my mind. "In the morning we'll send someone to pick her up and take her to the mechanic. She might have a few years left in her yet."
He didn't look like he believed a word of it. Why was he being nice about it? Probably so he could have a good laugh later. Still, if they wanted to be responsible for calling a tow truck and getting my car removed, I'd let them. What choice did I have anyway?
"Okay," I said after a moment.
That was something else I was going to owe the guys for. I couldn't expect them to take care of my car for free, even if they could afford vehicles like the one we were currently sitting in. And motorbikes. I'd seen a couple of them in the garage behind the house. One belonged to Fade. I didn't know about the others. Either way, they looked expensive. The men would hardly notice the cost of a tow truck. They might not mind, but I would.
I could ask my dads for help, but I wouldn't do that either. This was my problem, not theirs. My debt.
"It's not like I was giving you a choice," Fade said. "Leaving it out there is a hazard to traffic. Not to mention an eyesore. Moving it will be doing the whole city a favor."
Neither of us believed he was actually that magnanimous. I certainly didn't.
"What will they owe you in return?" I asked.
