I take my time with her despite the urgency thrumming through both of us, kissing every inch of skin within reach. I worship her the way she deserves after everything she’s survived to get here.
When I finally fill her, she wraps around me perfectly, slick and molten and entirely mine for this moment.
The rhythm builds fast between us, matching the chaos I’ve always carried in my own chest. And she meets every thrust with equal fire, her nails raking down my back, her voice breaking on my name over and over.
“Wayne, oh, Wayne…”
When my knot swells and locks us together, she cries out, and I bury my teeth in the last unmarked curve of her throat.
I bite down.
The final bond slams into place, and it’s unlike anything I’ve ever felt. Every thread between the four of us pulls taut at once, absolute and unbreakable, a claim that no elder, no council, no ghost of her old family could ever undo again.
“Mine too,” I breathe against her skin, wrecked in a way I never expected to be. “Always and forever.”
She holds onto me through the aftershocks, boneless and glowing, fully claimed, fully ours. And for the first time in my life I understand exactly what it means to have earned something instead of simply taking it.
All three of us lay on that sheet that night with her curled up in our midst.

We return home three days later, rested and thoroughly bonded, and Elder Edgar is waiting for us the moment we arrive, jaw still faintly bruised, expression twisted with barely contained fury.
He’s not alone; he has a handful of other Elders with him.
“You disappeared for days,” he says, loud enough that half the hall turns to listen. “No word, no explanation. I informed the council you’d abandoned your posts entirely for the sake of that woman.”
“You know that’s not true,” Sinth says flatly.
“Do I?” The bastard’s eyes narrow. “Three Kings vanish overnight at the exact time their ‘mate’ runs away, and I’m meant to believe it’s nothing more than a lovers’ errand? The packs deserve better leadership than that.”
“The packs got exactly the leadership they deserve,” I say, my temper already rising. “We were retrieving our mate from a storm that nearly killed her. If you’d like to call that abandonment, I’m happy to remind you what a broken jaw feels like.”
“The storm would have threatened her safety if she never left the palace in the first place.”
“Select your next words carefully, Edgar,” Chris warns, though I catch the edge of a smile he’s fighting to suppress.
He ignores the threat entirely, turning his attention instead toward Charlize, his lip curling.
“This is all your fault. A shiftless girl playing at royalty doesn’t become a queen just because three fools claimed her.”
That’s it. You’re done.
My temper snaps fully, already stepping forward, but Charlize beats me to it, eyes blazing with fury.
Chapter 24 - Chris
I expect Wayne to hit him again, although my fingers have already clenched into a fist. And I just might do it myself, considering that my temper is already climbing toward something I won’t easily control.
Instead, Charlize speaks first.
She steps forward slowly, deliberately, and something about the way she moves stops even Wayne mid-motion. He glances at me, uncertain, and I shake my head once. Not yet. Let her.
“You know what?” she begins. “You’re right. This is all my fault. The Alpha Kings won’t have to deal with someone as heartless as you if I wasn’t in their lives.”
“I beg your pardon?” His face twists in anger, humiliated by the fact that she’s standing up to him. Bold and fearless.
“Did I stutter?” She takes a step forward.
