Cozen’s tongue peeked out to wet her lips. “Enjoy what, Sargon?”
“Poking at a monster.”
“You have a monster to poke?”
“Seems so.”
“Jealousy is not a good look on a handsome man,” she told him. “And by the way, I told him no.”
Sargon glanced down the hallway seeing that it was still empty. He was a mess of confusion and chaos. Struck stupid over a woman he had no business being anything over, and currently working for a man he held no loyalty to at the end of the day.
This was not the kind of mess he got himself caught up in. He didn’t know what it was about Cozen that had seemed to get under his skin so easily.
It didn’t help that she clearly knew, too.
“I won’t say I’m sad that you refused him,” Sargon said. “But you also agreed to see him again.”
“I have to.”
Sargon’s gaze darted back to meet hers. “And why is that?”
Cozen didn’t answer his question, instead moving closer until her sweet floral scent was soaking into Sargon’s lungs with every breath he took. The scent of her perfume was familiar to him—comforting for reasons he couldn’t explain. She crowded his personal space. Something he took great pride in keeping closed to others. Her pretty features and sexy little grin all but clouded his vision.
Sargon saw nothing but her.
He liked that a little too much.
“What would you have done had I agreed to spend the night with him tonight?”
Her question whispered across his skin, yet it still stung like a slap. His first reaction was to curl his lip up at the corner in another sneer, and then his second instinct was to take what he wanted from her while she was this close, and he had the chance.
So, he did just that.
Sargon kissed her. He closed the small bit of distance between him and Cozen, and let his lips crash down on hers. The force was enough to bruise, and yet, she didn’t shy away from his kiss at all. If anything, she urged him on and silently challenged when her tongue snaked out to strike against his bottom lip.
He gave her what she wanted—deepening the kiss to tangle their tongues together as she started to walk backward. He went with her, backing her into the apartment until they couldn’t be seen from the hallway.
Her fingernails dug into his jaw, and his hand enclosed her throat. She tasted like red wine, and cherries. The heat of her mouth, and the way her tongue clashed against his was enough to get his dick straining in his pants.
Then, she bit his lip.
Sargon gave a little growl from the shock, and snapped back from her. Cozen stood just a few inches away with blazing eyes, and swollen pink lips. He bet the only way she could look hotter than she did right then was if he put her on her knees, and stuffed his cock down her throat.
Jesus.
What was he doing?
“I don’t think I asked you to stop.”
Sargon nodded, and took a couple of steps backward toward the door. “Be careful, Cozen. I don’t know what game you’re playing, but it’s a dangerous one.”
She needed to be careful with more than just her games …
With her life …
With him.
“I didn’t ask you to stop,” she repeated.
