Cory pulled away from the kiss first. She was left trying to catch her breath, with lips still tingling that tasted of him and promised sin. All things she liked about this man.

He didn’t move back, though. She didn’t put distance between them either. They stayed close enough together that his warm, minty breath washed over her lips with his next hard exhale.

“I don’t do this with women,” he said. “Any of this. Being honest, and all, so you know why I fuck it up occasionally.”

Della swallowed hard. “But you’re doing something with me now?”

“Something. I’m not sure what.”

“So as long as it’s good …”

Cory watched the way her lips formed the words before murmuring, “Well, I really don’t see the problem. Do you?”

Not at all.

She wasn’t able to answer him. The roar of engines had both of them looking down the direction of the alleyway to the street that led to the front of the warehouse.

Two black cars—windows darkened completely from tint—raced by. She’d noticed the row of warehouses seemed quiet.

Those cars were unusual.

She just knew it.

“Cory—” Della started to say.

He didn’t let her finish. “Stay where you are—don’t move.”

Hadn’t he learned yet?

She didn’t listen well.

Even when she tried.

It was a real problem.
