The countdown was on.
“Busy, isn’t it?” he asked, offering her a slight grin.
“Is this funny to you?” She took a step toward him, vaguely aware of the quiet noise the manicurist made behind her at the scene. “Do you know what I’ve had to do over the last day? The interviews with police … the hospital, my mom. You left me to do it alone. How dare you leave me here to do that alone?”
Finally, the rest of the room seemed to take notice of Gigi’s anger and how high her voice raised because of it. The movement all around them slowly came to a stop as several pairs of eyes turned on the two.
“Gigi,” the assistant who helped Kayla on event days tried to soothe from his spot at the wet bar, “Do you want a drink, honey?”
“No.”
“You sound like you might.”
“Get back to work!” She spun to the side, glaring at other members of the team also gawking and now doing nothing. “Stop standing there—work!”
This wasn’t like her.
Even she knew it.
The trembling in her hands had Gigi trying to hide them so no one else would notice. They already thought she had fucked everything up anyway, thanks to Marla and the woman’s constant need to undermine everything Gigi did with the team. She didn’t need to prove them right.
Lev noticed it, however. “Bedroom, now.”
Gigi’s gaze snapped to his, defiant and disbelieving. “What did you just say to me? “
“Get to the bedroom, babe. We can talk. Or you’re going to snap, and I don’t think that’s what you want to do. Go. Right now.”
She should have told him to fuck off. He would have deserved it. Instead, like her body was on autopilot, she turned and headed for the French doors across the suite that led into the master bedroom. Lev followed behind.
She went quietly. Until the bedroom doors closed.
