“Clear,” Alessio grunted, not lowering his gun for a second. “Down we go.”

They headed off the roof, taking the stone steps as fast as they could until another two men in black gear came around the corner at the bottom with guns drawn. Lev hit those ones, seeing them before Alessio did because the man was trying to hear Corrado on the comms.

“Ba-bay … she’s … bay … Les …”

“Fuck,” Alessio muttered when Lev passed him by on the stairs, rounding the corner where the bodies of two dead men now rested in puddles of blood, “what’s he saying?”

“Something about the bay, yeah?”

“Better not be in the fucking bay.”

Lev heard the tension in Alessio’s voice—the worry he didn’t show in his no-nonsense demeanor as he continued on with the job. “Comms wouldn’t work. Probably in a spot where the connection isn’t cl—”

“Are you off the fucking roof yet?”

Corrado’s voice came through all at once then. Perfectly clear, too. It sounded like Alessio wasn’t the only one who had been worried.

Pressing the comm in his ear, Alessio replied, “Yeah, about to hit the house from the s—”

“Get her! Get her out of the fucking water! Get her, you stupid fuck!”

Lev knew that voice.

He knew it too well.

While it wasn’t the brightest idea he ever had, Lev rushed far ahead of Alessio to enter the house where a door had been left open by the earlier men. He could have taken a bullet to the head right then, stupidly, because he didn’t think it through. And yet, he didn’t consider that at all when he heard Jensen Todrey shouting about a her like the man was losing his most valuable possession.

If he was talking about Gigi, then Lev bet the man did believe she was the most precious thing he owned. Except she wasn’t Jensen’s … and Lev planned on making sure the asshole never had the chance to even look at Gigi again after today.

He just had to get to him.

And her.

“Lev!”

Alessio’s shout hit his back as the comm crackled in his ear with Corrado’s severe fuck before the man in the boat told them something that about stopped Lev’s heart.

“She’s in the water. Gigi is in the fucking water, Les.”

“Get her out,” Alessio snapped. “Get her in the goddamn boat. What happened?”

Lev darted through unfamiliar halls with Alessio close on his heels. He didn’t bother to join in the conversation, not when his gun was up ready to blow, he was looking for his next target to get it, and he was so close to ending this that he could practically taste it coming on the tip of his tongue.

Then, Corrado had to go and scare Lev more when the man muttered through the comms, “I think she jumped from the veranda up top—almost to her, but she’s not moving.”

Lev expected far more guards inside the house than what they encountered in the maze of stone hallways. The one that did pop around the corner as he followed the sound of Jensen’s shouts was easily taken out, and he barely even aimed to do it.

It was only as they came through a kitchen where a chef hid behind an island—the man pointing at the doorways off to the right like he was trying to help Lev and Alessio—that the two of them split up. Lev went through the arched doorway on the right, and Alessio took the left side when the man directed him to do as much. The yelling was louder and clearer but coming from both directions.

“Can’t you fucking shoot?” Jensen raged. “Give me that fucking gun—don’t let that asshole grab her. She’s mine.”

What the fuck was going on?

“If we trust the pictures we found of the inside of the place,” Alessio said through the comm in his ear, “then this hallway circles around to the office at the rear—the one facing the bay.”

Right.

Where Corrado was. And where Gigi had apparently jumped from, if Corrado was correct.
