I shake my head. “Don’t be. Being your mommy’s boyfriend is my favorite thing in the world.”
FALLON
“She’s an amazing kid. You’ve done a great job with her,” Jett says from my couch with a smile after Harper goes to bed.
His jacket is flung over a chair, and he’s wearing a white T-shirt and jeans that he more than fills out. He’s just so masculine and imposingly handsome. I could stare at him for hours.
The night went well. Harper didn’t stop talking, but she tends to do that when she’s excited. Jett took it all in stride, asking her questions and engaging with her.
After dinner, we made hot fudge sundaes as we sat and watched a movie. Jett pulled me close to him as he always does when we watch TV…or do anything else. Harper was studying us carefully. She’s never seen me with a man, and I’m sure it was a little strange for her.
“Thank you,” I respond as I descend the stairs. “She makes it easy. She’s a good kid.”
“Because you’re her mother.” He motions for me. “Come here.”
I fall onto the sofa next to him, but he immediately lifts me to straddle his lap. He wraps his arms around me and softly kisses my lips. “Hmm, much better. It was hard not touching you all night.”
My jaw drops. “You had your hand on my thigh throughout dinner and your arm around me while rubbing my shoulder throughout the entire movie. How is that not touching?”
He smiles into my mouth. “Lips. I need your lips.” His hand moves under the back of my shirt. “Body. I need your body.”
He deepens the kiss, pushing his tongue into my mouth before rolling us until I’m pinned to my sofa with him between my legs. His hardness grinds against me. I feel like a teenager making out with her boyfriend, praying not to get caught.
When he kisses a trail down to my neck, I whisper, “We can’t go all the way tonight. My parents are upstairs.”
He laughs into my neck. “I know. Just a little something to tide me over. I’ve missed you, and I leave tomorrow morning. I hate when we’re apart.”
Our team has had several away games over the past two weeks. When I’m home, I’m with Harper, so we haven’t seen each other much. I’m glad he met her. If she’s agreeable, he can now spend time with us when she’s with me.
As for him, he leaves for mini-camp in the morning and will be gone the rest of the week.
His hands move toward my front before he lifts up my shirt, pulls down my bra, and roughly cups my breasts. I’ve missed his touch. I’ve gotten very spoiled over the past few months. We both know the next few won’t be nearly as easy.
I wrap my legs around him and thrust my hips up, drawing a groan from my man. His warm mouth moves down and surrounds my nipple as he sucks it into his mouth.
He unbuttons my jeans and begins kissing his way down my body. My fingers run through his hair while he peppers my stomach with open-mouth kisses. My arousal is amping up, but I know this can’t last. “Jett,” I breathe. “We have, like, two minutes until she’s thirsty.”
“Hmm, but I’m thirsty too. Let me drink from you.”
He begins to pull my jeans over my hips when we hear, “Mommy,” coming from the top of the stairs. We quickly scramble to sit up and straighten our clothes. I let out a giggle, truly feeling like a teen getting busted.
“Yes, baby,” I shout, a little flustered and breathless.
“I’m parched,” she yells back.
“Coming.”
I mouth, “Sorry,” to a highly disappointed and frustrated Jett before making my way upstairs with a bottle of water.
Yep, this is life with a child, but I wouldn’t want it any other way.
Jett is arriving home tonight from mini-camp, and I’m at his house waiting for him, wearing a white, sheer babydoll outfit with matching, tiny panties that he bought me. I’m sitting on a kitchen stool with a glass of white wine, excited to see my man and welcome him home. He should be here any minute.
I’m daydreaming about what our rare night alone will entail when my phone rings. I look down at it to see that it’s Tanner. He has Harper tonight so I accept the call immediately.
“Hey, Tan. Is Harper okay?”
“Yes, she’s fine,” he assures me. “She’s sound asleep. I’d like to discuss scheduling with you if you have a minute. This revamped summer arrangement is throwing me off. Bailey and I have conflicting days on our calendars. One of us is wrong. Plus, I might need a change or two based on our personal schedule.”
