She rolled out of bed quietly, looking over her shoulder to see if the shift had alerted Nathan to her exit, but he hadn’t moved at all. They’d been up late talking, as if they had both expected time to run out. The sex had been slow and Nathan had spent the entire time whispering that he loved her. She’d heard those words before from men, but she had never felt them like she did with Nathan.

She slipped out of the room, making her way to the kitchen to put the coffee on, longing for a few uninterrupted moments of sitting in the big armchair that faced the lake. It wasn’t that she needed time away from him, she just needed to sit with the past seventy-two hours. Fuck, maybe even the last seven and a half weeks.

When the new year hit, she had still been in the I’ll never date a hockey player camp. Now she wasn’t just dating one, she was in love with one. She’d been chugging along at a job she didn’t like but hadn’t really thought about, and here she was sitting on her resignation letter with plans to start fresh. She curled her legs up and readjusted the blanket before taking a sip of her coffee. Octavia should be more concerned about all of this.

She had made attempts to put the brakes on and step back. But even she couldn’t deny how desperate she was to see Nathan after he got home from a road trip. She always acted like she was just needy for him physically, but she loved the quiet moments with him as much as the mind blowing orgasms.

The floor creaked behind her and she looked over her shoulder to discover a very attractive man leaning against the wall in nothing but grey sweatpants.

They stared at each other, smiling stupidly until Nathan pushed off the wall and walked slowly across the room.

“I didn’t want to disturb you.” He bent and kissed her forehead. “Morning, beautiful,” he said quietly against her skin, sending waves of pleasure washing across her body. “Can I interest you in a giant breakfast? I seem to have worked up an appetite last night,” he teased as he backed away.

“I could definitely eat.” She threw off the blanket to follow him to the kitchen because the only thing better than eating a meal prepared by a hot man was watching him make it.

CHAPTER 33

NATHAN

“What if we just stayed here and didn’t go back?” Nathan asked, holding Octavia from behind as they looked out the floor-to-ceiling living room window at the frozen lake.

Octavia hummed and leaned back, her fingers curling around his forearms. “Not the worst idea.”

Nathan rested his chin on the top of her head and breathed her in. It was their last day at the cottage before heading back to the real world. The thought of which filled him with conflicting feelings. On one hand, he was excited about getting things rolling with their shared project. On the other, he wasn’t sure how he was going to operate in the dressing room. How was he supposed to just go on like everything was normal? How was he supposed to look around that room and know a bunch of those guys didn’t care? That they’d be pissed when they found out he was talking to people.

“What’s wrong?” Octavia spun slowly in his arms. “Your breathing changed.” She was more observant about his body than he was.

He sighed, buying time to figure out how to say what he was thinking. “I don’t want to go back. I just want to stay here in this bubble with you. I’m thinking about how I’m going to exist in a room with guys I know care more about protecting the code than innocent people.”

“You have to. For now at least. You love the game still right?” He nodded down at her. “Don’t let them take that from you then. Leave it all on the ice so at the end of the day no one can point at you and claim you played poorly because of off-ice distractions. Don’t let the survivor, and no doubt future survivors, be blamed. Because they will, Nathan. The women always get blamed.”

Fuck, he knew she was right.

“Yeah…you’re right unfortunately.”

“I wish I wasn’t.” She leaned into him and buried her face in his chest. “I love you,” she murmured against his skin and all he could do was hold her tighter while he watched the wind pick up, blowing a flurry of snow across the surface of the ice.

“Sit on the edge, baby,” Nathan requested, helping Octavia out of the hot tub so she was perched on the side while he knelt on the bench.

“It’s cold,” she complained, teeth chattering while Nathan gripped her thighs and dragged them apart.

“Be a good girl and I’ll let you back in,” he teased, dragging his finger along the outside seam of her swimsuit.

Octavia whimpered when he yanked her suit to the side and encouraged her to open her legs even more.

“Just like that. Fuck.” He leaned back, taking her all in but not making her wait too long before he went to work on that needy cunt.

She writhed against his mouth, the sound of her chattering teeth giving way to moans of pleasure as her fingers tangled in his hair.

When she was close, he backed away and told her to turn around and kneel on the bench where he’d just been. She followed obediently and when she was settled, he took his cock out of his shorts, lining himself up and pushing in without any preamble.

“Fuuuuu—” Octavia gasped as his right hand gripped her shoulder, keeping her from falling forward, while his left gripped her hip tightly.

Water sloshed around them as he set a punishing pace. They’d need to add water before they left if he kept this up, he thought. Quickly pushing aside the concern to focus on how good it felt to be inside of her. The heat from the water and her pussy in contrast with the winter air was almost too much.

He dragged her back harder against him, listening to her pants of “more” as he slammed into her over and over again.

When her moans became more desperate, he dropped his right hand to rub her clit. A couple strokes were all it took before he felt her tighten around him and break apart, her tight pussy pulsing around him, driving him to the edge. He groaned and withdrew, painting her back as he stroked himself through his orgasm.
