When he hangs up, he looks over at us. “Looks like our interrogation about Tank’s love life will have to wait. That was Fang, and they are about an hour out.”

“Thank fuck,” I mutter under my breath.

“Don’t think you are getting off the hook that easily,” Bear warns.

Gunner heads over to the counter to pay the bill while we head outside. The heat smacks us in the face immediately, making me wish that we moved somewhere a little cooler.

We mount our bikes, and when Gunner joins us, we roll out.

All jokes about my love life are shelved for another day. All thoughts about Delaney are pushed to the side. We’ve got a job to do, and it’s time to roll out.

CHAPTER TEN

Delaney

Talking with Tank through text messages and phone calls all week has helped ease most of my anxiety. Instead of being nervous he is coming over, I’m excited.

I want to see him.

That scares me a little bit, though, because we were clear in the beginning about what this is. It’s temporary. An experiment to see if we can get me over my issues while giving him a taste of what he wants to.

I cannot become attached, but it’s hard because Tank?

He’s funny. I find myself smiling at his texts throughout the day. He’s also sweet and charming. Smarter than one would give a biker credit for.

He’s everything I never knew I wanted wrapped up in a sexy package.

So when he knocks on my door, I don’t even pretend to act cool. I skip over to it, opening it with a big smile on my face.

“Hey.” I smile up at him.

He steps inside, cupping my cheek before kissing me deeply.

“Hey,” he rasps when he finally pulls away, shutting and locking the door behind him.

“I made dinner. Chicken parm. I figured we might need some energy later.”

I hate how my cheeks heat at the insinuation. I need to get over it, though. We have to be comfortable to talk about sex in order for this to work for both of us.

“Smart idea. Let me go put my bag down in your room, if that’s cool.”

I nod and head back to the stove to start plating the food. I set each plate down at the table, then grab him a beer that he mentioned he liked while I pour myself a small glass of wine.

When he comes back to join me, I can see the way his eyes light up at seeing the beer. It’s such a small thing to do for him, but he notices. Then again, he notices everything.

“Thank you.” His tone is deep and low as we sit down.

“Anytime.” I clear my throat as I start to cut my food. “So how was your day?” I pop a piece of chicken in my mouth as I look at him.

“Good. The whole garage thinks I have a secret girlfriend. Well, that’s a lie. Gunner has never said a word, but he mostly talks in grunts, so it’s hard to say what he thinks,” he says before he takes his own bite of food.

I smile as he talks about his friends. He acts like they annoy him, but I can see the love he has for them. He talks about them every time we speak. I feel like I know them already.

“Jagger still picking on you?” I ask.

He nods. “He never lets up. It’s who he is. I’m afraid it’s too late for him.”

I laugh. “Well, I can always call him and have a stern talking-to with him. I hear I’m quite good at that.”
