“Multiple attacks,” Evie whispered.

“Maybe.” Something about the images bothered me. “Or they want us to think there will be.”

I studied the details, searching for the one thing that didn’t belong.

Santorini. Times Square. Miami. Waikiki.

Different cities. Different countries. Different security systems.

But the photographs had been captured from similar angles.

They weren’t surveillance photographs.

They were behavioral maps.

The attacker wasn’t interested in the buildings.

He was studying how people moved.

The conversation disappeared from the screen.

This time, I couldn’t stop it.

Every message vanished at once, leaving only a black field.

Then white letters appeared in the center.

MICHAEL SARILLA

No call sign.

No rank.

My name.

Rook reached for the secure communications panel. “Lock down the facility.”

The alarms sounded before he touched it.

Red lights swept across the command center.

A second warning appeared on my monitor.

PERIMETER BREACH—EAST DOCK

Sniper drew his weapon and pulled Evie away from the windows.

I was already moving.

“Fantom,” Rook barked.

I stopped at the door.

He pointed at the monitor.

The words had changed again.

WE KNOW WHAT YOU FOUND.
