I was still shaking when he pulled out of me, his head thrown back, his hand quickly working his length.
Hooking my leg around his waist, I said, “No, look at me when you come.”
He opened his eyes and stared at me under his dark lashes, a half grin taking over his slack jaw. A guttural groan tore through his throat and he came on my belly and all over my chest. He stood there, still stroking his cock, breathing hard and looking so utterly satisfied with himself. “That’s one hell of a look on you, my love. You look like a painting.” Leaning forward, he took a sensitive nipple in his mouth and pulled back with a pop. “Perfect. I knew they’d look perfect with my come all over them.”
I rolled my eyes and he laughed hard, bringing those tiny jitters back in my stomach that was still tingling with remnants of pleasure.
Turning on my side, I watched him go into the bathroom to fetch a wet cloth. Watching his hard body move did unexplainable things to me. He was all mine. All mine.
He raised a smug brow, returning to clean me up. “Why are you grinning, my little vixen?”
I rested my foot on his stomach, trailing up his body and he shuddered, grabbing my ankle and leaving a kiss there. “I want to eat you alive. Devour you entirely.”
He hummed to himself while he cleaned me up and got my nightgown back on me again. “And when did this side effect present itself? Shall I call a healer?”
“Ha ha.”
He grabbed my jaw, squishing my cheeks, and he dropped about a dozen pecks on my puckered mouth. “Have I told you how much I fucking love this sassy mouth, hm?”
“You can always tell me again,” I mumbled, and he laughed a little, letting go of my face and kissing both of my cheeks.
“I love your sassy mouth.”
“Kilian.”
He blew the candles off. “Yes, my heart?”
“Kil.”
He tucked both of us under the blanket and pulled me to his chest. “Hm?”
The yawn almost tore my jaw in half. “Good night.” Don’t let me sleep. I really don’t want to sleep. I want to look at you till my eyes bleed. The you in my dreams is bloodied and screaming for me. The world in my dreams is ruined. I just want to look at you before what I see in my sleep becomes reality. Before you learn to hate me for leaving you alone.
He hesitated, the piercing silence that followed made me nervous—it was as if he could read the thoughts crossing my mind. “Goodnight, my Snow.”
It had been a mistake. Sleeping had been a mistake.
I woke up covered in sweat. Alone. Not remembering exactly what had chased me in my sleep. The only thing I remembered was Mal watching in the distance. The heaviness on my chest had lessened, only because my heart had shattered over and over seeing my friend’s tormented face. Maybe I had seen him there and I just didn’t want to remember. Maybe I’d forgotten on purpose.
I patted the bed for him.
Where…where was he?
Was I still dreaming?
Panic almost struck me again.
“Come here,” he called, and I looked up to find him sitting in the armchair in the corner of our room, watching me, the silver moon throwing a waterfall of light on him and him alone. He looked angry, the muscles on his face about to snap in half. His whole body was tense and so was his magic, because shadows flinted all around the room uncontrollably, like a forest under thunder.
“Why did you leave me?” I asked, trying my best not to collapse on the way to him.
“If I stayed,” he said, pulling me to his lap, arms and shadows holding me tightly. “I would have done something you would have hated. Taken all of it away. Every single nightmare. You would have resented me, and I would have not cared one bit.”
I pointed to his drink. “Can I have a little?”
He tipped the glass to my lips and let me have the smallest sip. “Tasty?”
I shuddered. “Revolting.”
