Visha might have blinked a little too fast when she cleared her throat and said, “As I previously explained, it was all her idea.”

I gave my husband a bright, saccharine smile. “Well spank me for being brilliant.”

He liked the joke, not so much the plan. “We will see about that.”

“Being brilliant or spanking?”

He shook his head and stood to follow with Visha and Oryn, probably to confirm that the new drug was not faulty.

Cai, Thora and Nia had little to say about what I was doing, they looked as if they had anticipated something of the sort, but Eren just looked…disappointed.

As the room began clearing, an unexpected visitor made their way inside. Moriko bowed her head. “I’m glad you’re back, Snowlin.”

“Your enthusiasm takes me back every time, Mor.” Resting back on my seat, I put a hand over my heart. “I’m touched.”

Her mouth twitched, she slipped forward and sat across from me. “You were missed.”

“I’m certain.”

“By many.”

I flashed her a smile. “By all who count.”

“There is a matter I’d like to discuss with you.”

“Any of the obvious will have to wait. My husband is waiting to berate me for going behind his back.” Again.

“Not an obvious matter,” she said, leaning forward. “Obvious to me, but maybe not obvious to many. Though I do think it might be obvious to you as well.”

“Quit dwindling about. You’re making me nauseous.”

“Yes,” she said, clearing her throat. “I’d like your blessings.”

“You flatter me.”

“To wed Nia.”

When I remained wordless, she continued. “I would have married her one day. Today, tomorrow, a hundred years from now, it doesn’t matter, but we might not have a today or a tomorrow let alone a hundred more years. I know what you mean to her and what she means to you, this is why I come to ask.”

“You will not hurt her.”

“A promise I can give.”

“If you do, Mor dearest, hells hath no fury.”

“Understood.”

“Do you love her?”

“More than I thought I was able to. Much more.”

“One can always try harder.”

She nodded. “Indeed.”

Since love was out of the way. “This might be dangerous to Nia. You are both Aura.”

“I assure that no harm will come to her. My people live in the land blessed by the Goddess of Life who fell in love with death. They know that if love must be measured by any means, it is not measured by who we love, but by how.”
