“Don’t I know it,” he said.

“You want me to call her?”

“No! I think you’ve talked to her enough,” Kaiser snapped.

“Hey! Based on the fact that I was flying blind here, and had no information from you, or my mate who is not supposed to keep anything from me, I did a hell of a job convincing her that being your mate wasn’t a bad thing and could be taken as she pleased or not.”

“Yeah, still. Don’t. I’ll figure something out.”

“You sure?”

“I’m very sure.”

“And what do I tell her if she comes back to talk to me again. I made it clear that she can. It’s my job to make sure that my people are okay.”

“I know. And I’m thankful that you were able to make her feel better. But if she comes back, maybe just listen to her. And now that you know why I actually left, you can reaffirm what she’s about to hear from me.”

“You think that’s a good idea?”

“It’s got to be better than her having no idea why I left. At least she won’t think I’m denying her. But I think I’ll call Lucas first.”

“You know I love you. We both do. You know we want you happy.”

“I do. And ditto.”

“I really hope the two of you can figure out a way to make this happen in the best way possible for the both of you.”

“I can deal with anything I have to, as long as I can make it easier on Keegan,” Kaiser said. “And having said that, please don’t make this common knowledge. If she wants to, that’s up to her and I don’t care what she says to anybody. But until she does, I don’t want her to have to deal with everybody else bringing it up to her.”

“Understood.”

“I’m going to call Lucas now.”

“Good luck with that,” Cristie said.

“I think it will be alright. I’m going through him, not around him.”

“Talk to you soon.”

“Yep!” Kaiser said, then ended the call.

Lucas glanced over at his phone ringing, as he was laughing at a comedy special he watching on TV. His smile immediately fell when he saw the caller’s name on the screen. He grabbed his phone. “I gotta take this,” he said as he headed outside onto the porch. “Hello,” he said quickly before the ringing stopped.

“Lucas? It’s Kaiser.”

“Hey, yeah, I saw your name come up. Everything alright?”

“I don’t know. I got a call from Cristie. She said that Keegan was very upset over the fact that I left and didn’t tell her I was leaving and she thought she’d never have a mate now because I rejected her because she’s young.”

Lucas sighed. “It makes sense now.”

“What does?”

“Her being as distant and upset as she’s been. At one point she was curled up in her bed, fully dressed, sobbing.”

“What made her so upset?” Kaiser asked.
