Then there was August. He openly flirted, sent messages asking if I was ready for our next lesson, and now he was here to collect.

And I was more than willing.

The moment I clocked out, he was sweeping me out to his truck. “The house is officially ours, firecracker. I thought maybe we could take our lessons there today.”

“Oh, sure,” I said, my voice coming out as a squeak. My hands pressed against my heated cheeks as I tried not to show how thrown off I was even though I knew it was coming.

As much as I had been thinking about those lessons every day since we’d had them, I still wasn’t comfortable talking about it half the time. He easily helped me into his truck, his scent absolutely not helping my current condition.

“Don’t hide from me, firecracker. Plus you know I love a good chase.” A choking sound escaped me at the thought of him chasing me down. My scent filled the cab of his truck as he tugged my hands away so I could see his predatory grin.

“You’re insane,” I groaned.

“That might be advanced level lessons, though. But I can definitely arrange it,” he promised, his voice huskier now.

“Oh god,” I whispered, picturing him chasing me around the house just to fuck me right where he found me. My omega was all too eager to paint those images and there was no denying how much I liked it.

My scent was a dead giveaway.

“Tell me what has you overthinking this time,” he said. I had a moment to think it over as he walked around and climbed in, starting up the truck and navigating toward the house.

“Nothing.”

He snorted. “Now we both know that’s a lie. We don’t lie to each other, do we, firecracker?”

I hated lies, so there was nothing to do but give him the honest answer that was bouncing around my mind, holding me back.

“I just feel so out of my depth. I want to get closer to you and them, but I’m terrified every time I think that it’s going to turn into more. I’m still not great at kissing and I don’t want to embarrass myself if we try to take it further.”

“I’ve kissed you and you’re fantastic,” he argued. “And I can promise you that you’re never going to embarrass yourself. I wasn’t kidding when I said that we alphas and deltas are easy to please. Hell, Conrad is thankful when you smile at him at this point, I think we’re all feeling a little out of our depth. This pack is navigating a complicated situation. That’s just the reality of it. No one blames you and we all just want to help but we’re all also trying really hard not to overstep boundaries or make things harder for you.”

“See, you’re all so perfect,” I argued.

“Do you want to keep up the lessons?” he asked. “Are they helping?”

“They are,” I promised. “I want this and just being around you all helps, I just need to get out of my head.”

“I think I can arrange that,” he teased.

“You look like you had plans today. What were you thinking, Delta?” I tried to keep my tone light, but the thought of him touching me again, of kissing me and tasting me, was enough to light me on fire.

“I don’t think you’re quite ready for my knot just yet, but I really like seeing you come. So, I thought we could have a little fun. I bought a toy and it’s already charged and waiting if you’re brave enough.”

The last line was absolutely a challenge. One I sure as hell wasn’t going to back away from.

“Are you going to take what I can give you like a good omega? Or are you going to squirm and hide away and deny your body what it really wants?"

“Both,” I said, not bothering to hide how turned on I was at the thought of trying.

If this was going to be more intense than my last explosive orgasm, I didn’t know how I’d handle it. But I was more than willing to find out.

“I thought you might be up to try.” He flashed me a grin and dropped one hand from the wheel to wrap his fingers around mine. “But first we’re going to work on some kissing practice.”

He finally parked in front of the lake house, but this time, I didn’t have the capacity to appreciate it. Every thought was centered around my delta and what was to come.

My heart was pounding rapidly in my chest as he led me inside. We didn’t head for the nest. Instead, he led me to the living room.

August sat down on the couch and patted his lap. His green eyes were full of lust as he watched me. “Come here, firecracker.”
