Sable Crown appears in all of them.

I look from one screen to the next. “So Sable Crown touched buildings, events, permits, money, and guards.”

Leonid enters with papers under one arm. “And charity registrations,” he says, placing the stack on the table. “Customs clearance filings too. Velenko’s name isn’t on them, but his old clerk signed two approval notes.”

Abramov checks his phone. “Velenko contacted one person after the terrace.”

Yuri looks over his shoulder. “Who?”

Abramov turns the screen. “Oak and Tron Security.”

Dima’s face changes. “I know them. Private contractor.”

Leonid flips through the filings. “They’re listed as site security for unfinished Vostok Meridian hotel renovations.”

Vostok Meridian.

Yuri stops typing. Dima looks from Maksim to Abramov. Maksim smiles slowly, and it’s not friendly.

Morozov’s hotel work. Old fire money. That name still has Dmitri’s parents in it.

Yuri opens the permit map. “The site has been unfinished for fourteen months.”

I lean closer and look through the staffing sheets. Something is wrong with the pattern, but it takes me a second to see it. The guard list changes often, and the camera rentals keep renewing.

“Dima,” I say, pointing at the invoice column. “Check site communication equipment.”

He pulls it up, then gives a short laugh. “Three separate invoices.”

“I thought so,” I say, tapping one sheet. “The permit says unfinished hotel, but the records show people are using it.”

“Shit,” Dima says, almost pleased.

“For meetings,” I continue, looking at the guard shifts. “Storage. Moving people in and out. Giving orders without using an office anyone can trace.”

The door opens behind us.

Dmitri enters. His eyes find me first, and he stops whatever he was about to say. My palms sweat. He’s too close, and half the estate is awake around us.

Then he sees the Vostok Meridian file.

“What is this?” he asks, crossing to the table.

Maksim lifts his glass slightly. “Your American walked in and started working.”

Dmitri doesn’t look amused. “She should be asleep.”

“So should your temper,” I say, keeping my voice even.

Dima makes a sound and turns it into a cough.

Yuri moves fast and pulls the files onto the main screen.

“Velenko called Oak and Tron after the terrace,” he says.

Kirill opens the security record beside it. “Oak and Tron staffed the Vostok Meridian site.”

Leonid puts another paper on the table. “Vostok Meridian and Sable Crown were filed the same way.”
