“No,” he grinds out.

I wait for more, but he stays silent, head tilted to the side. I move to stand behind him and can’t help running a finger up and down his throat, tracing the vein. Santiago shivers, just a fraction, when I place my lips on his skin and glide my fangs in.

The storm around us fades into the background and I drink deep, long pulls. Hell, his blood tastes so good, I feel like I’m drunk. My hands wrap around him, clutching him closer, and I lick his skin between gulps.

I’m pretty sure that if I moved my hand lower, his cock would be hard. Mine is pressing against the seam of my jeans and I barely resist the urge to grind against Santiago.

“Fuck.” He sighs when I pull free and close the pricks on his neck.

“Yeah, fuck.”

“We could… before you make the call.” He sounds out of breath.

The offer freezes me in my place. Then I take a step back. I want Samantha in the mix. It doesn’t feel right without her. Santiago looks at me over his shoulder and whatever he sees on my face makes his eyes dull a bit.

“Not without Samantha.”

“Fuck,” he says again, but it’s more of an agreement than anything else.

“You could… keep her entertained while I deal with the pack.”

“She won’t fall for that, or if she does, she’s going to be beyond pissed when she realizes we played her.”

“Could be worth it to keep her out of whatever this is,” I say and mean it. A dead wolf dumped on my land. Small things like that are always a sign of bigger trouble.

She’s angry with me already. For a reason, of course, but adding more to it doesn’t feel like such a bad idea if it keeps her safe. She might even forgive us after a couple hundred orgasms.

“Let’s just get the body covered and see what she thinks,” Santiago says.

“You go talk to her,” I force words out. The image of the two of them going at each other turns me even harder. “You need to clear the air,” I add when I see he’s about to refuse.

“But—”

“I’ll cover the body and make the call.” He hesitates, so I point at the door. “Go apologize.”

“Fine,” he says. Then he grabs my neck and pulls me in for a hard kiss. “I’m sorry, angel.”

He blurs inside, and inwardly, I curse every wolf on the planet. Dead or alive.

Bunch of cockblockers, all of them.

Chapter Twenty

Samantha

The shower warms me quickly, but I linger. That poor woman. Who would do such a thing? What would do such a thing? It doesn’t matter that the killer might not have known; rage boils in my veins regardless.

I try to control my feelings. Breathing in and out slowly doesn’t help, neither does counting from a hundred to zero. Picturing rainbows only makes me see red, blood red, and my fangs ache. Being a new vamp is emotionally exhausting. Not that I wouldn’t have felt the same as a human, but none of my methods to calm down are working now.

I smell Santiago before I hear him. His scent calls to me and, with an emotional whiplash, my feelings turn to lust. Fuck. Being turned on right after finding a body is so not the thing to do. I flip the shower off and step out, just as he opens the bathroom door.

No man should look so glorious while dripping wet. I need to get out of here before I offer to wash his back.

“The shower is free,” I say and grab a towel to wrap around my body. I’ll dry myself once I’m out of his sight, though once he’s out of my sight is more like it.

Santiago stands in the doorway, blocking my way, and crosses his arms. Green eyes follow my every movement. Involuntarily, I take a step closer.

“Let me out,” I say, trying to put some conviction behind my words and failing miserably.
