He leaned toward her and touched his lips to hers, deepening the kiss as he laced their fingers and trapped her hand against the pillow. Momentum carried him further. His body covered hers and her thighs parted to accommodate his hips. He was hot and hard, and though he wasn’t inside her, his hips moved as if he were.

She wanted him inside her. Her fingers tightened on his and she pushed, rolling him onto his back so that she was astride him and that thick shaft bobbed between them.

She rose to her knees, lifted one clear of the bed so she could guide him inside her. Slowly, so slowly, she lowered herself until he filled her, the full length of him, the girth of him stretching her. She threw her head back in ecstasy at the sublime sensation, then opened her eyes, looked down at him, and breathed his name.

“Rocco…”

Chapter 4

“The steak was cooked to perfection—thank you.”

Sasha lifted her gaze from the email she’d printed off, to see Rocco leaning against the door frame, arms folded and looking like a tall drink of something cool and incredibly sexy. Once again, she was impressed by how comfortable he looked around the Glock 19 in the shoulder holster, as if he’d been born with it—so much for the awkward Brit of her assumptions, who wouldn’t know a gun if it bit him on the ass. “I’ll be sure to tell Chef. Good morning. Did you sleep well?”

“Very well, thank you.” He pushed away from the door frame. “Almost too well.”

Sasha raised an eyebrow. “Too well? How can anyone sleep too well?”

Rocco shrugged. “Let’s just say, it’s a very large and very comfortable bed, and in the past I’ve slept in some much less… hospitable locations.”

Intriguing. “You’re ex-military, right?”

“Yes—but you already knew that. I’m sure Gerry would have mentioned it.”

She shrugged and smiled. “True. Do you mind if I ask—”

“Army.”

And the way he said it told her he wasn’t going to elaborate. She could take a hint. She wasn’t stupid, either. The special forces guys whose paths had crossed hers in the past never talked about who they really were and what they really did. “I take it you haven’t had breakfast yet?”

“No, unless black coffee constitutes breakfast in Texas.”

She wasn’t surprised—he looked like a black coffee kind of guy. And then, completely unbidden, another thought occurred to her—was he a morning sex kind of guy, too?

“Sasha? Are you all right?”

“What? I’m fine—absolutely fine, thank you.” Apart from the furnace blazing in her cheeks. She was way too old to have that kind of reaction to a man, yet here she was, blushing like a virgin. “Yes, breakfast—and no, black coffee does not constitute breakfast around here. Come with me.”

The house was quiet—hardly surprising, since it was barely light. While her employer would probably be dead to the world until almost lunchtime, Sasha liked an early start when it was practical.

So, apparently, did Rocco. Visions of intimate first meals of the day filled Sasha’s head as she led the way to the kitchen. Chef didn’t come in for this shift, but his assistant did, and she made the most amazing breakfast dishes imaginable.

“Tell me, is this your normal daily routine?” Rocco asked over his plateful of pancakes with all the trimmings.

“Pretty much.” Sasha forked up her first mouthful of fluffy omelet and almost moaned as the delicious flavors bathed her taste buds. “Geri, this is amazing.”

The young woman in chef’s whites laughed as she continued to prepare vegetables. “You say that every time.”

“And I mean it every time. Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.”

Sasha turned back to Rocco. “Unless I’ve accompanied Linzi to a show or some other event the previous evening and we’ve arrived back late, I’m normally in the office by zero six thirty at the latest, in case anything urgent’s come in from Europe overnight.”

“What could be that urgent?”

“The entertainment industry works fast twenty-four seven, and it also works on rumors. It could be anything—a request for an interview, a guest appearance on a talk show, that kind of thing. Normally activities like that are booked well in advance, but there are times when we have to respond to something that’s happened overnight.”

“Does that mean a long day for you?”
