She smiles.
“Because when Toren dies, I want you to remember that she spent her last night wanting another man.”
Agents pull us from the vehicle—roughly, ignoring Cas's grunt of pain as his leg gets jostled.
We're in an underground parking garage. Concrete walls. No windows.
“Move,” one of the agents orders, shoving me forward.
“Touch me again and I'll rip your throat out with my teeth,” I promise him.
He hesitates, looking to Fiona for guidance.
“He's cuffed,” she says dismissively. “He's not going to do anything.”
They shove me toward an elevator.
My phone buzzes in my pocket.
An agent pulls it out, glances at the screen.
“It's Ken,” he tells Fiona.
“Answer it,” she orders. “Put it on speaker.”
The agent does.
“Boss?” Ken's voice crackles through. “Where are you? What the fuck is happening?”
“I'm detained,” I say, my voice hard. “Federal custody. Listen to me very carefully. You're going to call Gauge and Johnson. You're going to coordinate with every available man. And you're going to get to that house before the briefing starts.”
“Boss, Williams is listening—” Ken starts.
“I don't give a fuck who's listening,” I cut him off. “You get to Toren. You protect her. You kill anyone who tries to stop you. Those are your orders. Understand?”
“Yes, sir,” Ken says immediately.
Fiona's expression darkens. “End the call.”
“And Ken?” I continue before they can cut him off. “When you find Fiona Williams after this is over—and you will find her—you have my permission to make her death as painful as you want.”
The agent ends the call.
Fiona looks at me with cold fury. “That was stupid.”
“No,” I correct. “What's stupid is thinking you can threaten what's mine and walk away. That footage? That almost-kiss? Doesn't change a goddamn thing. Toren is mine. And anyone who tries to hurt her answers to me.”
“You're in federal custody,” Fiona reminds me. “You won't be there to protect her.”
“I don't need to be there,” I say. “My men will handle it. And when they do—when they've killed every single one of your embedded agents—you better pray they don't find you first. Because what they'll do to you will make my threats look like kindness.”
They shove us into the elevator.
As the doors close, Fiona looks directly at Cas.
“You know,” she says casually. “There's something I've been meaning to share. A little secret that might interest both of you.”
“I don't give a fuck about your secrets,” I say.
