“You really want to take me to San Francisco?”
Nathan nodded. “Yeah.”
Victoria looked between us with a scheming glint in her eye.
“Okay, sure.”
“Great!” Victoria clapped her hands together. “Well, I need to get going. Everything looks fantastic. Isla, you’re a peach.”
“You’re welcome,” I said with a smile.
We said our goodbyes, and I veered off to my friend. His eyebrows were raised, and his lips slightly parted.
“What?”
“Going on a little trip with your boss, you’d like to bone.”
“Frankie!”
I looked around, and thankfully, no ears were near enough to hear Frankie’s comment.
“Come on!” I pulled him out of the gallery and onto the street.
“So, where are you taking me for lunch?” Frankie asked.
I scoffed. “I’m taking you?”
“You work in a fancy-ass gallery! Clearly, you make more than me.”
I rolled my eyes and laughed.
“Fine.”
“So, tell me about this trip.”
“I don’t know much. I heard about it when you did.”
“Are you going to bone your boss?”
“No!” I exclaimed. “No, definitely not. Last night, he came in with that blonde again, so he’s back to his womanizing ways, and whatever moments I felt were just infatuation on both our parts.”
Frankie didn’t look convinced.
“This seems like a boning trip.”
“I’m not divorced!”
“Don wasn’t even separated when he boned someone else.”
I groaned. “Look, this is not a boning trip. It’s a business trip.” I stopped in front of a deli. “Now, can we eat here?”
“Fine.”
“Great.”
I stepped toward the deli, but Frankie stopped me with a hand to my chest.
“Just one thing, boo. I think you should consider this trip an opportunity to lose your post divorce virginity. If you’re both just in it for sex, no one can get hurt.”
With those words, Frankie walked into the deli.
