“What you want me to do? Your old man’s not going to listen to me.”
Grayson got blunt. “You know where the bodies are buried. Figuratively and literally.”
Toya looked at him. Literally? Did he say literally? That would mean that Vincent actually did know where the bodies were buried!
“You can bring him down,” Grayson said to Vinnie. “And you know it. I need you to remind him that you know it.”
Vinnie smiled. Until he heard the doorbell rang. Then he looked at Grayson. “What’s his problem? I have the code to get into your house, but you’re telling me your old man don’t?”
“And he never will,” Grayson said firmly as he stood up and went to the door.
Vinnie looked at Toya. “Don’t worry, Meesha. Your ass ain’t going back to nobody’s jail. Gray don’t put his name on the line for anybody. He put his name on the line for you. That’s all I need to know.”
Toya smiled. “Thanks.” He was the first person in Grayson’s circle to ever treat her with respect. She liked him already!
But her pleasure ended abruptly when Sebastian Carrington walked through that door.
CHAPTER THIRTY
Sebastian Carrington walked in full of himself, but he walked out full of contrition. Because Vinnie lacerated him with facts that stunned Toya.
It started out tense enough. The man walked further into the living room, scanned Vincent and Pauly and Toya, and then proceeded to ignore them. He turned his attention to Grayson. “Okay I’m here. “What is you want now?”
“Are you still going to endorse Emily’s opponent for the state’s top prosecutor?”
“I already told you I was.”
“And I told you if you don’t endorse Emily she’ll file those charges against Latoya again.”
His father was livid. “I don’t give a flying fuck about that girl! Why should I care what happens to her?”
“Oh but you should,” Vinnie said as he stood up. Toya and Pauly stood up too.
And that was when Seb looked at his stepson. “What does any of this have to do with you?”
“Nothing at all,” said Vinnie. “It has to do with your ass. And that girl I had to dispose of for you. The one at your lake house. What was it? Six, seven months ago? Something like that?”
“She overdosed and you know it!” Seb yelled at him.
“She probably did. But you fed her the drugs. Which makes you her murderer. And it’s funny. You may have great name recognition. You’re beloved throughout this whole state. But I have cops in my pocket. Many of them. All of them highly ranked. I’m telling you right now,” Vinnie said with a look that scared even Grayson, “you’re going to go to that press conference with that lady’s opponent, and you’re going to look at those cameras and announce your full support for that lady for top prosecutor. What’s her name?”
“Emily Preston,” said Grayson.
“Yeah that bitch,” said Vinnie.
“And if I don’t endorse her?”
Vinnie walked up to Seb. They were eyeball to eyeball. “I’ll show them the film.”
Seb frowned. Even Grayson didn’t know what Vinnie was talking about. “What film?” Seb asked him.
“The film of you arriving at your lake house that night. The film of that girl showing up. The film inside that lake house of yours where you’re giving her drugs and alcohol. Just slugging it down her. Of your sexual interactions with her. Of her death. Of your panicking and waiting over an hour to call anybody at all.”
“How would you have all of this film?”
“I have cameras all over that lake house of yours.”
“You what?” Seb was floored.
