KODY

Iwoke up the next morning to my clothes landing on my face. My hand came up on instinct to yank away the fabric and I shot up in bed, blinking furiously as I tried to figure out just where the hell I was.

Remnants of the dream I’d had about crazy hot sex with my stepsister lingered in my mind, and at first, I thought that was why it was her face I was seeing glaring down at me. I blinked again, sure I was still sleeping until she spoke.

“You can go now. Goodbye.”

I rubbed my eyes, but when I looked again, she was still there, an eyebrow arching as she raised her hand to point at the door. Her thick brown hair was bundled into a messy bun on top of her head and her face was clear of makeup, those dark green eyes shining with determination to get me out of her bed.

She was dressed too—unfortunately—looking good in a band tee and her long, bare legs on display, but she also seemed pretty serious about wanting me to leave. I cocked my head at her, hooking an arm behind my head to make it clear I was staying exactly where I was for now.

“You’re kicking me out?”

“This was a mistake,” she said firmly. “A huge mistake that we’re both going to pay for the rest our natural lives.”

“It was good, though.” My lips curved into a smirk even though I really wasn’t trying to be an asshole. “Real fucking good. What do you say you get back in bed with me and we see if we can make the magic happen one last time?”

“No.”

Zero hesitation. Fuck.

“You’re my stepbrother now, Kody. We absolutely cannot do that again. Not ever. We can’t even think about it.” She shuddered and wrapped her arms around herself. “This was so wrong. It never should’ve happened.”

A tiny pang of disappointment stabbed at my gut, but realistically, she was right. We were step-siblings now and this probably never should’ve happened. My dick hated me for it, but I shrugged and sat up, pushing the covers off and trying not to think about how we’d gone at it all night long in the bed I was now leaving.

So hard I could hammer nails, I got out of her bed, naked and shameless as I walked to the bathroom. Mercedes frowned deeply as I passed her. “Where are you going? The door is the other way.”

“Yeah, yeah. I’m just going to splash some water on my face to wake up. Coffee would’ve been nice. I’m going, okay? Just give me a minute.”

She followed after me, her eyes narrowed to slits as she glared at me from the door to her adjoining bathroom. “You need to leave. Now. I’m not making you coffee and we’re not doing the morning-after, post-match talk. You just need to leave. With the clear understanding that this can never happen again. You’re my stepbrother, Kody and what’s more is that we don’t even like each other.”

I chuckled as I turned the faucet and held my hands under the cool water. “You liked me just fine last night.”

“Are you not listening to me? We’re not doing this. We’re not talking about it. You’re my—”

“Stepbrother. Yeah. I got that.” I lifted two handfuls of water and splashed the liquid on my face before turning off the tap and reaching for a towel. “Here’s the thing, though. We’re only step-siblings because of a piece of paper that legally makes our parents husband and wife. It’s got nothing to do with us.”

“Of course, it does. We’re going to be spending holidays together. Birthdays. Family events.”

I snorted after drying my face, straightening up again. I met her gaze before slowly letting mine drop, raking it over her to appreciate those mounds under her shirt and her shapely calves. “We didn’t grow up together. There is no sibling dynamic and there’s never going to be. It’s not that inappropriate.”

“It was still wrong.”

I grinned as I strode back toward her, seeing her nostrils flare and the deep red flush that crept up on her cheeks, but it wasn’t anger. It was lust. I knew she was dying to look at my cock, get back in bed with me, and take it for another ride. I was all for it, but I also knew she’d never give in. She was too much of a black-and-white rule-follower.

For her, last night really had been a mistake. It’d been a mistake for me too. I just didn’t care as much. “Maybe it was wrong, but that only made it more fun, don’t you think?”

She shook her head. “Nope. Absolutely not. It was temporary insanity. That’s what it was. Why are we still talking about this?”

Getting right in her face, my body so close to hers that I caught a whiff of her floral scent, I smirked. “Because it’s fun, Mercedes. Live a little. Let me help you relax.”

“Will you cut it out already?” Unlike last night, she took a big step back this time and I sighed but then walked past her back into the bedroom.

I felt her eyes on my naked ass, though. She was taking one last look. “I’ll cut it out if you stop staring at me like you’re considering dropping to your knees and sucking me off.”

When I glanced at her over my shoulder, her mouth had dropped open and her eyes were wide. But she didn’t look pissed off. Not at first, anyway. The flush creeping up from her neck grew hotter, turning her cheeks a rosy shade of pink before she crossed her arms and huffed out a breath.
