His chest stopped moving for a beat. “You meant it?”

“That I love you? Of course, I did.”

Kody wrapped both arms around me and hauled me closer to him, his mouth finding mine in the dark for a passionate, deep kiss. He trembled against me, his tongue stroking mine before he nipped my lower lip and ended the kiss just as passionately as it had started.

“I love you too.”

My heart skipped a dozen beats and elation bubbled through me. The kind of joy I felt hearing those words from him was indescribable. It burrowed into my heart and my soul and found a home for itself there. One I hoped it would stay in for the rest of my life.

Kody seemed as happily overwhelmed as I was, devouring my mouth and rolling us over so he was pinning me to the mattress. His lips broke away from mine, pressing hot, open-mouthed kisses to my jaw, my eyelids, and then finally moving down to dot those same kisses down the column of my neck.

When he hit the collar of my shirt, he groaned and reached for the hem, quickly tugged it up and then moved with me when I lifted my torso to allow him to take it off. While we were in that position, I moved my hands between us to the waistband of his sweatpants, pushed them and his underwear off.

Our movements were frenzied, his skin hot against mine. He lay back down on top of me and kissed me. My pants found their way to my ankles and I kicked them off. Since I’d been going to sleep, I hadn’t been wearing a bra and Kody sent my panties to my feet next before he settled over me once more.

My nipples were rock hard, my core already getting soaked as he kissed me like there was no tomorrow. Like we had no worries and like he didn’t care who knew what we were doing. And sure, I wasn’t about to advertise it by screaming or anything like that, but clearly, he’d meant what he’d said too.

He’d given the family a chance to get on board, and they had. He really wasn’t interested in hiding anymore.

His heart raced against my chest and I scraped my fingertips up the muscles in his back. As I rocked up, his cock slid through my folds and he sucked in a sharp breath.

“We need a condom, but I didn’t bring one. They’re in my wallet, which is in my room.”

I giggled into his mouth, my own heart racing as I teased him. “It’s a good thing I came prepared, then.”

“You did?”

I shrugged even though I knew he couldn’t see the movement. “A girl can dream.”

“Thank God,” he groaned. “Point me in the right direction.”

“Bathroom. In my vanity bag.”

I felt him nod. He pressed another searing kiss to my lips before his weight disappeared. It wasn’t long before he was back and I heard the foil tearing as he opened the packet. A second later, he was back in bed. He crawled between my legs and kissed me as his tip nudged at my entrance.

“I love you, Mercedes.”

Tears sprang to my eyes. I brushed my fingers through his hair, wrapping my legs around his hips again and gently pushing him into me as I said it back. “I love you too, Kody.”

He sank into me, his mouth finding mine. He pushed himself inch by inch, sliding against every delicious part of my insides. I squirmed underneath, my heart already pitter-pattering as he started moving.

We never stopped kissing. Touching. Our fingertips roaming every inch of skin we could reach in whisper-soft, gentle movements. I arched my back into his hand when he closed it around my breast, his fingers squeezing just hard enough to make me moan as he thrust into me.

At my moan, I felt him swell deep inside of me and I kissed him even harder in response, urging him to move faster. He did, rolling his pelvis against my clit on every stroke and making me see stars.

When I couldn’t hold back anymore, I gasped into the kiss and my body tensed up around his. Kody let out a low growl, then let go with me, his hips jerking. Pleasure took over and kept me in its grasp for the longest time.

I shuddered and moaned underneath him, holding him to me. I panted and finally sagged back into the mattress. Kody collapsed just after I did, his hot breath feathering across my sweaty skin as he rested his head in the crook of my neck.

As I stroked his hair and caught my breath, I glanced at the window and saw through the sliver of a crack in the drapes that the snow was still falling outside. I smiled. When I’d come here earlier, I hadn’t thought for one moment that this was how the night would end, but I supposed I’d learned for myself now that everything was possible at Christmas.

The most wonderful, magical time of the year.

“Merry Christmas, love,” Kody murmured sleepily. “I love you.”

“I love you too. Merry Christmas, Kody.” Still smiling and marveling at the turn the day had taken, I closed my eyes and decided to deal with the sadness and worry again tomorrow.

Whatever happened, he and I would face it together, and in the end, we would be okay. I knew it now. No matter what, we would stick together and we would weather the storms life threw at us together—and hopefully, that would be enough that the misery and breaking-up part of our relationship was now finally over.

Forever.
