“Of course.” I laughed. “Here I was, worried that I was moving too fast. We only really got together less than two days ago and you’re already talking about marriage. That’s the speed of light.”

Mercedes’s cheeks flushed, but she held my gaze as she took my hand and held it tight. “What can I say? When I know what I want, I go for it.”

“And what you want is me?”

She nodded. “Only you, Kody. Always you.”

“Well, you’ve already got me, but we should probably give your mom some time to come around before you show up wearing a ring on New Year’s Eve.”

“Yeah, you’re probably right.” She pretended to be disappointed as she sighed, but then she hooked her arms around my neck and pulled me closer, her lips moving against mine when she spoke again. “Okay, so no ring before New Year’s Eve, but what do you say we start practicing for that family we want to create?”

“Fuck yes,” I breathed as I laid her down on the couch and pinned her hands above her head, holding both wrists in one of my hands as I rolled my shirt up between us. “Keep them there. I’ve been dying to do this since you put this on. Don’t stop me unless you mean it, okay?”

“Okay,” she said breathlessly, already moaning as I moved down the length of her body and planted my face between her legs. “Hey, Kody?”

“Yeah?”

“I love you.”

I laughed, took her knees in a tight grip, spread them apart, and glanced up at her. “I love you too, baby. So fucking much. Now and forever, okay?”

“Okay.”

I didn’t know if she believed me yet, but I knew that she would. Mostly because I wouldn’t stop until I knew that she did.
