She blinked. "Come again?"

"He kissed me," I repeated, a flush creeping into my cheeks. I looked down at the table, studying the design of the wooden grain as I felt too embarrassed to meet her eyes.

Janie just blinked again before an incredulous laugh burst from her lips. "Knox? As in your boss? Knox Williams the ex-underwear model?"

I nodded, my fingers drumming nervously on the side of my cup. "Yep."

"Why?" she asked the obvious question.

"I don't know."

"What did he say?" she asked.

"Nothing. I don't know. I walked out and I haven't talked to him since."

"What the hell?" She burst into laughter.

"I don't know," I groaned. "I don't know what the hell is happening. He didn't show up for work. He emailed me and said I wasn't on the event. Then he shows up and it looks like he went a couple of rounds with Mike Tyson. Although it looked like he won. He kissed me. I got freaked out. I don't know."

"Did you kiss him back?"

I frowned. "I don't know."

"Was it good?"

"I don't know."

Janie threw her head back and laughed, nearly choking on her coffee. "Oh, sweetheart, if you can't say it was good, then it probably wasn't."

I cringed at her words, my mind running back to the moment. It had been abrupt, unexpected. It wasn't like any of the stolen kisses from college boys or the few tentative ones shared with my high school boyfriend. This had been different, raw and passionate. It wasn’t that it had been bad, more so that it had been confusing.

"Stop grinning like that," I snapped at Janie, trying to hide my blush.

"Oh, so it was good," she teased. "So, what now? Are you going to kiss him again? Does he like you? Obviously, which is why he kissed you. Do you like him?"

"No! He's my boss! And not a very good boss at that."

She laughed. "So?"

"I can barely stand to be around him, let alone get involved with him."

"And you haven't talked about it since it happened?"

"No." I shook my head. "I don't want to deal with him. I think he's upset with me."

"I wish some hot dude would kiss me when he was mad at me."

"I don't know what I did with Benjamin's party. It was going to be so good. I think Benjamin must have complained. The guy was an asshole. He was obnoxious. I didn't come right out and say he was an asshole or even scold him for acting inappropriately. I thought I handled the situation with decorum. But apparently not."

"Did you tell Knox?"

"No. I doubt it's going to do any good. Knox already pulled me off the party. Marcy is still on it. She says Knox pretty much put her in charge."

"You should tell him," she said.

"With him, I don't think it would matter," I muttered. "I really think I have to start looking for a job. I mean, how much stress is worth it?"

"I agree." She nodded. "But maybe this is all a misunderstanding. You should talk to him."
