The guy was huge—in stature and everywhere else. I’d never felt as full as I did when he was inside me and it was going to take a beat to get used to it. Even before I did, he still felt so darn good. He touched me everywhere, his thick length putting pressure on all the right places.
As if he just couldn’t help it, he kept moving instead of holding still for even so much as a second, withdrawing and thrusting into me again. Our moans mingled in the air and our bodies kept colliding in the best possible way. I’d just had an incredible orgasm, but feeling him in me now and knowing how on edge he was got me right back there in a matter of seconds.
His kisses became nearly bruising, but I loved every moment of it, kissing him back just as passionately as pleasure tightened my insides. With him every step of my way, my own hips moved to match his pace, and before I even knew it, I was coming again, shouting into his mouth as my body tensed around his.
Remington lost it with me this time, his thrusts finally losing their rhythmic pace as he found his release. I felt it happen even in the midst of my own orgasm, and it triggered a series of aftershocks that stole my breath and even my sight. In that moment, the world fell away and there was only him and me, the connection we’d been building pulsing between us as surely as the pleasure.
I’d never known anything like it, but as the kisses slowed and he finally pulled out of me to take care of the condom, it felt like we’d just cemented something. Solidified it. When he came back to bed, he pulled me to him, holding me so tight that it was like he was never going to be able to let me go.
Panting in his arms, I brought my hand to his chest and felt his heart pounding under my palm. He slid his fingers through mine, twining them in a tight grip as he pressed a kiss to my hair. We stayed like that for a while, just catching our breath while I wondered what the hell had just happened.
Outside, the wind had picked up since the last time I’d been aware of it and thunder rumbled in the distance, another storm evidently rolling in. Remington groaned when he realized it, breaking the silence that had fallen between us.
“I should go,” he murmured, his lips moving against my temple. “If this is as bad as the last one, Laurene might wake up after all.”
Disappointment raced through me, but I swallowed it, turning my head to smile up at him instead. Him leaving was the last thing I wanted right then, but I understood. “Of course. No child is crazy about thunder. If it wakes her up, I really don’t want her to be scared and alone.”
He sighed. His gaze held mine for another beat before he nodded and started sitting up. I let go of him and scooted back to give him some space to stand. He didn’t seem to want to leave any more than I wanted him to go, his movements slow and reluctant, but he got up anyway, quickly tracked down his clothes, and pulled them back on.
I did the same thing and covered up before I walked him to the door. When we reached it, he took both my hands in his and laid another searing kiss on me.
“I’ll see you in the morning, Birdie. Good night.”
“Good night.” I watched him back away from me and finally spin around to start jogging down the path toward the resort.
It had started drizzling, but he moved fast, disappearing around the corner within seconds and leaving me feeling strangely bereft without him. I stayed right where I was for a long minute, leaning against the open door and wondering just how hard I was falling for this billionaire from the city who was just going to go back to his life once the summer ended.
He’d said it felt like more than a fling and it did, but that didn’t change anything. Regardless of everything I’d felt back there and regardless of what either or both of us might want, he really would have to go back to his reality eventually.
At this point, Remington wasn’t even sure if he could fight for his daughter to stay because he might not have time to raise her. He definitely wasn’t going to have time for a relationship, but especially not a long-distance one that required him to come all the way out here if he wanted to see me in person.
We were doomed. We always had been, which was why I was supposed to have kept my heart out of it, but as I stood there and watched the storm, I realized my heart was most certainly in it now. My entire heart had wanted to go up to his suite with him, to check on Laurene and to be there if she woke up and needed to be comforted.
I didn’t just want him for his body or the sex. No matter how intense and amazing it had been. It just wasn’t about that.
I didn’t only want him for the next couple of weeks. I wanted to be in his life, and that was a problem. A problem that, as of right now, I had absolutely no idea how to solve.

REMINGTON
A few days after Alan and Declan’s first golf game together, they were out on the course again and I’d decided I’d given my partner enough time to butter the old man up without me. It was time I got in the game—literally and metaphorically.
If we had any hope of actually closing a deal before the summer ended, it was time to start moving things along. Declan seemed pretty confident that Alan liked him enough to at least consider it, but that meant that I had to attempt to bury the hatchet with him.
As I walked out onto the course, Alan spotted me almost immediately, cursing under his breath and rolling his eyes when I approached them. “Oh, goodie. You’re here.”
I took a deep breath, forcing a grin. “I came to join the fun, not ruin it.”
“Too late,” Alan muttered.
Declan laughed, reaching out to give the old man’s shoulder a friendly squeeze. “It’s only ruined if we allow it to be ruined. What do you say, Al? Should we let Remi join us for just this one game?”
I hadn’t told Dec I’d be coming out here today, but he took it in stride and I was grateful for that. We both looked at Alan, waiting for an answer that didn’t seem to be coming. He didn’t move out of Dec’s grasp but he didn’t try to shake him off either. Even though I was right in front of him, it was almost like I wasn’t even here.
His eyes seemed to be focused on something else. Something that wasn’t there, but I took it as a sign that he was thinking and kept my mouth shut while he did. When he finally dipped his chin in a curt nod, I grinned.
“Game on, old man,” I said just to rile him up a little. “Have you ever even played golf before? Because I’m about to make you feel like it’s your first time.”
