College

My head lulls as I stare at the building in front of me, and it’s not until I hear a few giggles that I realize my mouth is gaping. Slamming it shut, I cut my eyes to see if anyone else is watching me.

I jump when my phone vibrates in my back pocket, and I roll my eyes as I dig it out and hit accept. “Hola, Madre.”

“Lolita, how are you doing?” she asks with the thickest Latin accent.

“I’m fine, Mamma. I’m just about to go into my first class.”

She sighs. “You will do well, my sweet little bonita.”

“Thank you, Mamma.” I take a deep breath. “I need to go.”

“Adios, my gorgeous girl.”

I end the call as I begin to take the steps, shoving the phone in my pocket. Three flights up, I find my class and take the first seat I find. I twist and turn, fidgeting at best, while we wait for the professor.

A dark shadow washes over me and stays until I peek up. A chestnut-haired, green-eyed god stands before me, and I become a deaf-mute.

“Hi.” His mouth twists. I open mine, but still, no words come out. “You’re in my seat.”

I straighten my back. “I didn’t know we had assigned seating.”

“We don’t.” He cocks a brow as he points to the back of the chair, where his backpack hangs.

I wince, admonishing myself. “My bad.” I slide from the seat, taking my bag with me.

“I’m Carter.” He offers his hand. “You are?”

“A poacher.” I giggle when his brow quirks. “Lola.”

“Lola.” I watch as my name rolls off his crimson lips. Damn.

I throw my thumb over my back as my words return. “I’m going to go find a seat.”

“I’ll be right here if you need any help.”

I nod. “Good to know.” I spin around and grab the first available place. My heart races when I look up to find Carter watching my every move. I bite back a grin as the class begins.

As the syllabus is passed out, the professor begins to go over it. I do my level best to watch Carter throughout. He’s so handsome. Soon, I realize I’m not the only one thinking so. A blonde sitting on his right passes him a note.

His head inclines as he takes it from her with a killer smirk. He opens it and gives her a knowing smile. I can’t help but wonder what she wrote in it. She’s practically falling all over herself now, and him.

“He’s an ass.” A murmur from beside me draws my attention.

“Huh?”

“He is an ass.” She motions to Carter. “He also has a nice one.”

“Oh, I wouldn’t know.”

She leans forward. “I’m thinking he wants you to find out.”

“I don’t think so.” I giggle.

She smiles wide. “Okay.”

I shift in my seat to lock eyes with those sexy as hell green eyes. I drop my head, trying to avoid him. A quick glance and I find he’s still staring. My face flames as my leg begins to trot.
