Two years later…

“I can’t believe you’re celebrating your second anniversary with Cunter,” Millie snaps as she zips my dress.

I glare at her. “Millie! Stop!”

“I’m sorry, but we both know he’s an ass, and for the life of me, I don’t know why you stay.” She pulls and tugs at my dress to get it perfect.

“Millie, I love you. You’ve been by my side since our first day here, and I’d be lost without you.”

“But…” She folds her arms, glaring at me.

I grasp her shoulders, looking her in the eyes. “I love him.”

“And I love you, but you wouldn’t take the junk he pulls on you from anyone else.” She tugs at a string on her shirt hem.

“He’s a good man, he treats me well, and you have no idea whether what people say is true or not.”

“Marry me,” she blurts out, making me grin.

“No.” I kiss her cheek. “Besides, I’m not a lesbian.”

She falls onto the bed with a dramatic grunt. “It’s not my fault I have a V where I should have a D!”

“You wouldn’t want a D because you’re already one with that attitude of yours.” I slide into my shoes with a snort.

“You’re right, I love women, and I would never make a nice-looking man.” She stands and walks toward me. “Although, I wouldn’t mind standing to pee.”

I hold up my hand. “Preach!”

“I only want to make sure you’re happy, that’s all.” She wraps her arms around me, and I take a deep breath. I love this girl. She’s like my sister, and I’d be lost without her.

“I am, and if ever I decide I’m not, you’re my first call.”

She giggles. “I’ll keep the line open.”

I release her, stepping back to do a quick spin. “How do I look?”

Her lips twitch. “I’d do you.”

“Hell yes!” She bumps my fist when I hold it up.

“Go have fun with douche canoe. I’ll be here.” She flops onto the bed.

“You know, if you’d find a steady girlfriend, we could double date.”

“I’m too young to be tied down. Besides, I’m waiting on Miley to leave that Aussie and come find me.” She swings her legs from the end of the bed.

“It’s all about realistic goals, girl.”

She nods. “So true.” My phone chimes, and I rush to get it. “Yes, please. Kill yourself in those heels so he doesn’t have to wait.”

I stick my tongue out at her as I answer it. “Hey.”

“Lola, what have we discussed about phone etiquette?” Carter immediately admonishes me for my short answer.

“Yes, I apologize. I was in a rush to answer.” Millie rolls her eyes with a huff.

“I’m waiting,” he grumbles.
